Same… I hope they don’t try to justify Vanraj’s toxic behavior by giving him some sob story for why he’s mistreating Anupama.

It might indeed be a case of testing the waters....
The empathy I would feel, and also currently have, is for the actor who plays Vanraj.
I only started watching Anupamaa just before Anuj entered, so I could only see the toxity from there. I heard that initially, Vanraj was 'quite a good character', a good father and loyal son, etc. etc.
Whatever villain the makers made him into must have affected the actor himself. Look at all the trolling he received, with trollers mixing up the character with the actor.
I'm leaving out whatever statements he himself is said to have been making on whatever platform regarding the importance of his current role.
But it's almost a law of nature that dealing with the poison he has to spew on a daily basis as Vanraj - and he does this so convincingly that everybody hates Vanraj! - would kharab karo his own being in the bargain.
This does bring me to wonder, though, why he should wish to perpetuate this toxicity around him in a Prequel !!!
My dad and I watch this show together and often we have mini discussions at the end of the episodes, which consists of me venting all my frustrations regarding the toxic characters of the show.. Vanraj, Baa, Toshu, etc. I often tend to express my anger for Vanraj (the character Vanraj, am not bashing the actor at all haha!) and my dad always defends the actor saying.. "enu role hi indara mileya, real life mein thodi aisa hoga" (that is just the role that the actor got and is not his fault).. and I always laugh and state that I too am talking about the character and not saying these things about the actor. (Duh, dad!😆)
He also says that he likes the character (for reasons I cannot fathom or agree with personally, such as he thinks that Vanraj is necessary for the plot of the show to move forward), because the actor is doing so well that it brings out these strong emotions from viewers towards the character, though they may be highly negative. Somewhere, I feel yes that indeed I may hate Vanraj the character.. but maybe because that is because the actor is doing such a great job😆. Personally though, I think story would have been much more enjoyable if makers focused more on Anupama's journey and udaan after the divorce rather than constantly obsessing over the Vanraj/Anupama conflicts.
In response to the fact that you've heard that Varaj was a likeable character.. I dunno. I think he was pretty toxic from the start where he treated Anupama like complete trash and did not allow her to do things for herself such as going out (even for a couple hours), have a career (such as her failed attempts at becoming a teacher.. all because him and his family created unnecessary hurdles for her in the name of her "duty" towards kids). He humiliated Anupama multiple times and even tried kicking her out of the house just for going out and all that in front of his kids. Not to mention, putting Anupama down verbally constantly. Vanraj, absolutely was not a good husband or even person in my opinion because even if one dislikes somebody that is no way treat any human being. Any person will break after all the constant verbal abuse.
As for good father and son, I don't know about him being a good son, but I feel that he was/is not the best father figure. What kind of father models such toxic and abusive behavior for their kids? For the kids to have grown up watching their mother being treated like a doormat every single day is bound to have some negative consequence for them too. So I feel that Vanraj could have done better. Sure, financially he may have supported his kids a lot and pampered them, but in terms of modeling healthy relationships to his kids, at least with his wife and their mother.. he completely failed.
Which is why I have had a hatred for Vanraj's character from the start as he was shown as extremely arrogant and abusive. I missed some episodes here and there, but for the most part that is my opinion of the character from the beginning.
The actor did a great job portraying all this, but there is a time for everything. The fact that makers continue to drag out this ongoing Anu/Vanraj conflict is not only infuriating but can also be boring too. Anu draws a line, then sympathizes again, and then draws line again.. so forth. I just want something different. Something new. I get that she will always be involved in some way or another with the father of her kids.. but is showing all this constant Vanraj/Anu conflict really necessary?
And that is why, I say no to the prequel.😆
A great piece, HappySmiles 👏
I actually hated Vanraj from day 1, particularly after having had some sneak-peeks at earlier epis.
Again, kudos to the actor for getting us to feel so strongly about a fictitious character (though most of it is also showing in reality here).
But it is really not so that his role is required to take Anupamaa's story forward.
Now, more than ever, it is indeed time to concentrate on #MaAn and their onward story.
I have a special idea in this regard which I shall put up in a separate post....😃
Yes, please share! Perhaps makers might get some good ideas from you!😆
Thanks for your good faith in me 😃
Just put up that post. Happy to receive your comments, and those of others of course!
