“Samar beta, Kinjal beta, sab taiyari ho gayi hai na… woh sab kabhi bhi aa sakte hai….. 6 bajne ko hai,” called out Baapuji excitedly from the Shah living room to the two sous chefs in kitchen…..
“Jee Baapuji, sab taiyaar hai”
“Cool dude, chill sab time pe ready hai,” replied both sous chefs from kitchen in chorus mirroring the same excitement.
“Accha Kinjal beta, Anu aur Devika bhi taiyaar ho gayi na” asked the inquisitive father who was ready to welcome his to be damaad and to be Samdhi officially to mark the beginning of the wedding preparations along with performing the Shagun Rasam.
Post all the drama, though Anupama was nonchalant about the happenings, Baapuji had warned Baa and Vanraj not to create further issues in marriage the next day morning. If they dared to do, he had promised on Kanhaji to leave the house forever and seek shelter in an old age home.
He had also mentioned that if they are willing to behave civil and social, they are welcome in wedding and its preparation otherwise they are free to stay away from it.
As the evening approached, Mamaji went to drop Baa to Jaamnagar and Vanraj with his wife left to Mumbai on pretext of a business meeting. Pakhi also tagged along her dad and bestie. Toshu went to stay with his mother in law.
None of them bid adieu to Anupama and neither did Anu care as she was busy planning the surprise welcome for Anuj that night.
With blissful and euphoric ambience buzzing in Shah household post the departure of unwanted attendees, Baapuji invited Anuj and GK for a the Shagun Rasam and dinner on the next day.
To help in with the preparations, Devika had arrived next morning and took over the entire kitchen like a master chef.
Anupama was strictly instructed by Baapuji not to get engaged in any preparation and her only work was to relax and enjoy.
To ensure that Anu stays away from all this, Kinjal and Devika had called two beauticians from salon to give her massage and beauty treatments.
Baapuji had been on his toes behind the MasterChef and her two sous chefs to get everything done in time. To his relief, everything and everyone was ready by 5:45 pm.
All day while cooking in kitchen and now upon waiting for the Anuj and GK, the trio have been planning on ways to tease the to be bride and groom.
As clock was about to strike 6, the enthusiastic and handsome groom to-be Anuj along with GK Kaka had arrived in their red Audi car.
Like a surprise package, Mukku was also present with them.
True to her character of unpredictable behavior and spontaneity, Mukku had canceled all her plans and came back to join the wedding festivities of her Bhai and Bhabhi .
“Anuj beta, Mukku beta, GK, aayi ye sab ander aayi ye… aap sabka dil se Swagath hai,” said Baapuji welcoming them with folded hands, so overwhelmed with joy that a tear drop of happiness could be seen in corner of his eyes.
Hugging his friend, GK said “Buddhe, abhi se hi rona shuru na kar …. thoda beti ke vidaai ke liye bhi bacha le,” to help lighten his emotions.
After Anuj touched Baapuji’s feet and took aashirwad, everyone proceeded towards the sitting area.
Mukku was also welcomed with warm hugs by Kinjal and Devika.
“Meri honewali Bhabhi kahan hai?” asked Mukku as Anu wasn’t seen anywhere.
“Mera Bhai bahut utavle ho rahe hai apni honewali Biwi se milne ke liye.. dekha nahi aap sab ne inki aankhon mein,” she added further to tease her brother whose eyes were searching eagerly for his Anu.
After a lot of Ooos and Aaahs, Devika replied in a teasing tone, “Anu ko na… hum ne kamre mein lock kiya hai taaki woh hamari preparation mein apna taang na adaye ….. aur tab tak bahar na nikale jab tak Anupama ka Anuj na aaye,” stresssing a little extra on Anupama ka Anuj.
Mukku went ahead to bring her Bhabhi while Devika and Kinjal made the final preparations for Shagun.
After the nanad and bhabhi had a heartwarming reunion with a lot of hugs and kisses exchanged, they both came to the sitting area.
Anu was dressed in a dark brown soft silk saree with gold and beige thread work on border. Her saree had tiny little flowers patterns weaved in gold and beige colors. She had paired up her saree with a beige colored blouse. Wearing subtle makeup and keeping her hair open with slight curls towards the ends, she looked gorgeous.
The glow of being in love had done wonders to her beauty. The moment Anuj’s eyes fell on her, she looked like a huge bar of his favorite chocolate enticing him.
He felt like he couldn’t wait anymore to devour every bit of this yummy chocolate bar nibbling, licking and munching to his heart’s content… she seemed more irresistible after the small taste test he had done the previous night.
He conveyed his desire through his eyes to her and Anu wasn’t far behind too. Anuj had worn beige colored kurta which matched her blouse. He looked like her favorite Chikoo milkshake on which she could wait to lay her hands on so as to enjoy every drop by sipping sensuously.
They both tried hard to keep a check on their thoughts but it seemed their minds were master of their own…. The time stood still for both of them.
“Bhai, bolo na Anu kaise dikh rahi hai?”
The high pitched voice of Mukku shook Anu and Anuj out off their reverie.
“Bhhaaaii…..” she nudged him again with her elbow.
“Hemm..hemmm…” trying to clear his parched throat so as to push words out to it…he continued, ”Acchi lag rahi ho Anu”
“Sirf acchi? Yaaaaa bahut bahut bahut acchi Bhai…?” egged on Mukku
“Bahut bahut bahut acchi lag rahi hai Anu… ab khush Baccha” replied Anuj while looking at Anu through the corner of his eyes.
Deep down in his mind, he knew he hasn’t done full justice in appreciating her looks… not even an ounce of it. He craved for a private moment with her so that he could express in every possible way of how enchanting she looked…..
The Oooos and Aaaahss explosion in Shah household made him aware of his surroundings, at the same time sending a rush of red hue all over Anu’s cheeks.
“Ab Shagun ka Rasam shuru kare?” asked Baapuji to calm the enthusiastic crowd.
As everyone was ready, Anuj and Anu were seated next to each other on the couch.
Baapuji applied tilak and offered Shagun ka thaal to Anuj. GK kaka repeated same with Anu. It was a gratifying moment for Anuj to have the commencement of his marriage to Anu after the indefinite wait of 26 years.
Seeking blessings from Kanhaji and elders, the rasam was completed. The younger ones and Devika showered love on them and did a celebration by dancing and clapping around them.
As everyone started gathering around the table for dinner after the celebrations, “Aaj toh sirf shagun hua hai… sagaai ke baad dulha dulhan pass pass baithna… tab tak aise aamne saamnay… okie..” with a tease in her tone, Mukku pulled Anuj to one side to the table.
Her partner in crime, Devika does the same with Anu and pulled to other side of table.
Needless to say that, Anuj was disappointed on not having to sit near his Anu but with no other choice, he had to accede to it so as to dodge another round of teasing.
Though he loved on how the teasings spread pink hue all over Anu’s face, he wanted to have that look on her exclusive only to him. With a possessive feeling arising in him, he decided against it and got seated.
Seating arrangement was such that Anu was sitting between Devika and Kinjal, while Anuj was seated between Mukku and Samar. Baapuji and GK kaka sat on the either ends of table.
To break the monotony of causal talks at the dinner table Mukku blurted out, “Waise Bhabhi,mujhe sunne mein aaya hai ki aap ne Bhai ke liye kal raat Dinner Date plan kiya tha….Hoyeee Hoyeee… aap toh badi chuppi rustom nikali…”
“Mukku, chup kar ne aur khana khaa,” responded Anu in an attempt to curb the discussion on that topic to which seemed futile.
“Bhai, Bhabhi… aap log bhi kitne unromantic aur boring ho yaar… Hai na Devika,” continued Mukku ignoring Anu’s warning conveniently.
“Of course, itne sanskaaree aur boring couple mai ne aaj tak nahi dekhe,” chimed Devika
Upon receiving the intended response from Devika, Mukku added “Aise ghar mein Dinner Date kaun plan karta hai?” gesturing her hands in accordance to the question.
Nudging Anuj further on his arms, “Bhai thoda kharcha karo….. Bhabhi ko baahar le jaao…..Long drive pe jaao… Night out karo…”, Mukku iterated her long wish list for Anu and Anuj.
“Aish karo, maze lo…..,” she ended with a wink and stressing on maze lo.
Though everyone on the dinner table were adults, that maze lo references felt a tad inappropriate which left Anu scandalized and others tight lipped.
Sensing the awkwardness and to ease the tension, Devika retorted “Arre… atleast restaurant mein toh plan kar sakte ho na.. Kya bolte ho sab log”
“Jee bikul”
“ I agree”
“ Of course… ek dum perfect rahega”
Poured in the responses from Kinjal,Samar and Mukku.
Probing Anu and Anuj, Devika continued, “Aur tum dono kuch bologe ya maun vrat rakha hai?” while having her glances moving from one to another.
Feeling little relaxed and posing a cool attitude, Anuj replied “Yeh toh Anu ki choice hai… usse jo pasand hai.. am OK with that” while stretching his legs.
The stretch resulted in his tip of his right toe touching Anu’s left feet. Sending shock waves in him, it hit upon him of the golden opportunity that he had overlooked all the while.
Without wanting to waste any more moment, Anuj asked with a straight face “Bolo Anu, ghar ya restaurant…. Tumhari choice kya hai?” while sensuously grazing her feet with his toe which send a shiver down her spine and made her freeze.
