Ex means mutually broken up. In Ram’s case V married but he never broke up with her. He continued in the relationship holding up one side, staying loyal & in love & devoted. “Ek tarfa pyaar” redefined - not just pining but discharging responsibilities towards lover like in a relationship. So she never became his ‘ex’, she was his forever.

That changed only recently.
