Girl.. you have just explained it all... Their 30-40 years of experiences had made them like that. They have lots of baggage and that reflects in all their actions. But neither is wrong. In fact the way they are dealing with this is so in line with all the character development so far.

And once again it's not easy to portray a strong female or a so vulnerable male...goes against most of the tropes. Hats off to the actors.

It's ITV. They'll always keep the Dialogues vague so they can keep multiple tracks open for Future & utilize it any which way😕
