I can definitely give some nice kudos to the director Atif. :D So I have a superbly short attention span. Do you know how I watch many of our dramas on ITV? I just watch the previews. 🤣... Then maybe an episode or two every 15 episodes. I also drop dramas left and right. I am not a loyal viewer that will stick around for gazillion episodes.😂
.So I started watching because of MVs that showed up in my youtube feed. So I randomly watched a few Imlie episodes -- it is easy to watch ITV without knowing the plot. 🤣... When I liked what I saw, I basically went back to find out which episode Aryan made the entry and watched from there.
The last time I had so much fun fangirling as well as laughing was the drama Bepannah. I must say that I am enjoying hanging out with you friends. This is a good thread! ❤️
The reason I give so much background gyaan is to show how magical this arc of Imlie is. It is entertaining, beautifully shot and it is layered. So let me give you examples:
1. Aditya - Imlie arguments -- the way the camera is often shot where both are physically distant as well as there is a slant. Aditya is looking down at Imlie. Thats how the camera angle is -- so you can see him towering over her almost. In contrast, the way Aryan and Imlie arguments are shot -- there is less physical distance because both are often in each other's spaces. It is also shot at horizontal level focus where both Aryan and Imlie seem equal (even though he is also quite a bit taller than her). This quietly tells you that is more equal partnership
2. When we see Aryan alone, the scenes are often really darkly lit -- it tells you quietly that he is in a dark place. Whereas, scenes with Aryan and Imlie are often beautifully lit. She brings light into his life. Similarly with costumes -- what we saw initiallly was that he was often dressed in darker colours such as black. As he interacts with Imlie more, there is more a splash of colours. Now, with holi episode, we see him in white. So that is also a subtle progression. Little details like that add to the layers and make it more fun
3. One of my favourite scenes are when Aryan cries or when Imlie's tears fall on him. Aryan crying is just like him -- his face is like a granite but without him realizing, a tear will fall from his eye. With Imlie's tears, we always see it falling on his and it always seems so poetic. It reminds me of the wisdom that even granite is eventually worn down by drops of water to form beautiful mountains. That is what we see with Aryan and Imlie. He has a pang in his heart when her tears fall on him.
So yes, there are lots of little background details that make it beautiful. I also appreciate the splashes of absurd humour that lets me not take this drama seriously (example: Aryan's supersonic ears -- that was hilarious). I love the combination of cheese as well as serious emotional dramatics. Thats what makes a drama emotional and gets me moved. If it was full rhona dhona, I would drop the drama as I hate depressing dramas. If it was totally silly and unbelievable, I would drop the drama because my logical side would be working overtime and I won't know whether to laugh or eye roll. Here, we have a great balance of entertainment -- that is what makes it fun. It is the type of masala that keeps me tuning in and enjoying myself.
I know that some viewers are frustrated and feel that Aryan's character has changed -- I disagree. While Imlie goes from highly watchable to sometimes idiotic, I would still say the writing is on point. It does not feel abrupt or unnatural where I am thinking these characters got a sudden brain transplant. 😂
Aryan's character is fantatsically layered and in many ways the drama gives us lots to discuss. We can dissect our hearts away depending on our mood -- we can be silly, we can be serious, we can be realistic and get annoyed or just have a load of laughs. Now isn't that magical? -- thats what a good drama should be.
So altogether -- Atif as well as the creatives team are doing a great job. They have gotten viewers like me and have my attention for 100+ episodes. After a long time, I am enjoying myself enough to log back into these forums and have a laugh. So good job to the team. :)
