We could make a case. For laughs of course:)

(1) more time-saving/ efficient to let her fall, pick her up and drive;

(2) calculated risk - safe soft landing, unless the gravel or whatever was hiding sharp objects

(3) avoidance - were he to stop the car, she'd run, and then either

- he'd have to too, making it a waste of both time and opportunity to pick her up; or

- she'd run ahead mindlessly, and only then in the very very empty desolated streets suddenly a sad lone auto would either come by to hit her or .. let's not forget what she does to unsuspecting auto drivers that don't accept passengers when she's lost her marbles.

In short, he plausibly stayed in character and bonus: we traded up to a 'moment' from anything between extremely ridiculous to outrageous:0) Win for the viewers I'd say!
