With such a wide power differential between Imlie and ASR, it is simply not that easy for Imlie to say 'no', even if she is uncomfortable with his proximity. Imlie is not in a position to vocally express her displeasure because she is beholden to ASR.

ASR is aware of this power differential, and he gleefully rubs it in her face, like today when he asked her 'Tum kya kar logi?' She doesn't have the power to refuse him, professionally or personally. However, the power differential between her and Aditya is not so wide, thus she feels more at liberty to say no to him.

Therefore, no matter how many liberties they allow each other, ASR is in a position superior to Imlie. Thus, when he physically or verbally harasses her, he is consciously or unconsciously subduing her into following his will.

There is a mental facet to harassment and abuse. It isn't simply a matter of consent. Sometimes women are not in a position of giving consent. That's where it gets tricky.

Yes a woman can be unable to express her discomfort with someone with a power differential.

So maybe you can argue that imlie is not able to express it to aryan. But, but as viewers have we ever been shown a scene that she is later uncomfortable with the way he touched her. Have we ever been shown that she is repulsed, uneasy or angry with their physical interactions??

She does not need to show discomfort to aryan, but the viewers should see it to pass judgement. No? So on what basis are we terming this sexual harassment?

On the contrary she is more muh-phat and outspoken with him than anyone else. We see her repeatedly reach out to him emotionally and in terms of physical comfort.

As for her being indebted to him - it did not stop her from breaking association with him and walking out of his house at night. The fact that she has to repay him 5 crores does not stop her from talking back to him at any point in time.

You can't term every interaction with power difference as sexual harassment.

If she was intimidated by the power differential between her and Aryan to not be able to express herself vocally, what do we call the liberty she takes in calling him all sorts of epithets and monikers? What do we call the actions where she doesn't hesitate to literally jump on him every chance she gets? The BT launch party clearly showed us who is the one consciously or unconsciously subduing the other into following their will. That, to me, doesn't look like a woman who is afraid of/by the power of the opposite person.

If their relationship was not of equals, or she felt intimidated by him, she wouldn't dare go to him and ask him for a loan of 5 crores and that for the Ts! Truth be told, that kind of money one doesn't even ask for easily from their kith and kin, even if they promise to literally slave for it all their lives because that's plain ridiculous, forget asking their boss for it, and that when there is no real monetary repayment capacity on Imlie’s part.

Both the times that he's asked her Tum kya karlogi? he's meant it in a teasing manner. Even if we take it at face value and not as teasing, then let's not forget the conversation he had with her the day she came home from the hospital. He clearly asked her if she ever felt afraid to voice her thoughts before him or felt intimidated by his actions. And she clearly said no — and that no can't be construed as one stemming from her fear of ASR because let's face it, Imlie can be foolish but she is never afraid of anyone.

As to her power differential with Aditya, I would say it was along the same lines as that with Aryan now because if she is a city girl now and he's a rich guy, she was a village girl and Adi, the city guy back then. The power differential was still wide enough.

There definitely is a mental facet to harassment which Imlie chooses to ignore but it isn't in her relationship with Aryan, rather in her relationship with the Tripathis.

With Aryan, at least, she stands to gain something, somewhere. Whereas, with Aditya and the Tripathis, she has only been giving without really getting much in return, yet she is the one who feels indebted to them. That, right there, is the biggest power differential I see because it is their actions that portray that they own her and they are the ones she feels beholden to.

A person being comfortable with someone =/= being equally powerful as them. A feudal peasant may be comfortable with his Lord and freely express himself, but he can never be as powerful as his Lord. Power comes from wealth and Imlie is not as wealthy as ASR. That has already been established.

Therefore, although there was undoubtedly a power differential between Imlie and Aditya when they first met, it was never that wide because Aditya is a middle class guy who hadn't done so many favours for Imlie. She was the one who had to always save his life and do things for his family. They were (and still are) indebted to her. Imlie does not constantly return to to them because she feels beholden to them, she returns because for her they are the only true family she has in the city. If Tripathis felt they had owned her, they would not have let her stay in Rathore mansion for even one day.😆

Imlie is a naive girl and naively declares a lot of things. However, she is a 19 year old girl who is dependent on her boss for survival. That is the reality. Her not being 'afraid' doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things.

I'll tell you whose touch actually repulsed her to the point she shoved it away and even said 'How many times have I told you not to touch me' and yet he went ahead and touched her.

That man is Aditya and he's the one who committed assault at that point by touching her again after she explicity said No.
