On the plus side, arranged marriages tend to have higher success rates than love marriages if both people are committed to making it work.

Just say the word and we, your forum buddies, will celebrate dhoom dhaam se when the happy occasion takes place - and hey,

I always wanted an arranged marriage. Ye love marriage mere bas ke bahar hai, mere gahr me chalegi bhi nahi.

Bold - that's so sweet of you.

This and this (bold). I see what my parents do for me and my sibling and honestly I can't imagine taking on something of that magnitude... But one of my instructors (who brings her baby with her to teach, which I think is cool) once said to me that she didn't ever want to get married or have a baby till she met her husband and then decided she specifically wanted to have a baby with HIM. So maybe it's about meeting the right person - I kind of hope it is, but I'm just ambivalent and cynical about the whole thing...

I love babies and when I was in my mujhe shaadi karni hai phase, I thought I can take care of them because they're super cute..usse aage socha hi nahi.

But now when I have a lot of time on hand and I don't have my rose tinted glasses on..I've realized that I know nothing about raising kids. I can hardly take care of myself..main kya bacche ko sambhalungi.

And it's so scary that life could have taken me in another direction and I would have been married and had a kid by now. 2 decisions that I now know that I definitely would have regretted. I can end the marriage but my poor imaginary kid would have been a lifetime responsibility..

I don't think people really think through these things. Everybody is not meant to be a parent. I would rather not be a parent than be a bad parent.

Totally true. If this is someone's choice then cool. What I don't agree with is that marriage or no marriage, it's a personal choice. It shouldn't be negated wholly just as it shouldn't be advocated as the only thing.. And it's an inaccurate conclusion that those who choose marriage in only because of social conditioning of a patriarchal society..

I don't know much about this, but there are some traditionally matriarchal societies too, like the Malays.. What's marriage to them?
