The series against Sri Lanka offers the chance to players like Sanju Samson, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, and Avesh Khan to present their skillsets ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia later in the year. Though Rishabh Pant, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur are unavailable, India will be hoping that the return of Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja will boost the experience in the hosts’ camp.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Harshal Patel sizzled against the West Indies, so as young leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi. Venkatesh Iyer will be looking to continue his fine work of finishing matches at number six and giving some overs of part-time pace.

In terms of batting, there have been different players who have stepped up to the challenge of bailing the team out of tough situations. But there’s a soft underbelly of the Indian batting which Sri Lanka will be looking to exploit: batting against the spinners. Against the West Indies, off-spin all-rounder Roston Chase was able to take out the Indian batters and stem the run-flow.

Wicket Keepers

• K Mendis - Kusal Mendis has the highest credits among the wicket keepers as he looked in good form against Australia. He scored 100 runs in 3 matches. In the last match he scored 69 runs off 58 deliveries and led Sri Lanka to the victory.
• I Kishan - Ishan Kishan opened the innings alongside Rohit Sharma in the absence of KL Rahul in the T20Is against West Indies and he batted well giving a good start to the team. He scored 71 runs in 3 matches.

Batsmen

• R Sharma - The Indian skipper is the top pick for batsmen list. Though he scored 20+ scores only once in 3 T20Is against West Indies, we know his abilities of putting huge scores once he settles himself. He is one of the best T20 batsmen.
• S Iyer - Shreyas Iyer played only 1 T20I against West Indies and he scored 25 off 16 balls. He looked in great form in the last ODI where he scored 80 runs in 111 balls. He is our 2nd batsman picked from the Indian side.
• C Asalanka - Charith Asalanka and Pathum Nissanka have become favourite picks from the Sri Lankan batting unit. Charith Asalanka has scored 64 runs in the series against Australia where batting is always difficult for the visitor team.
• P Nissanka - Pathum Nissanka batted really well in Australia and he emerged as the highest run scorer in the 5 match series. In 5 T20Is, he accumulated 184 runs at an average of 36.80

All-Rounders

• R Jadeja - India’s favourite all-rounder for every format, Ravindra Jadeja will be back to the squad after a break and we are expecting him to be a crucial part of playing 11. He played his last T20I in the T20 World Cup and in 5 matches he took 7 wickets.
• D Shanaka - Wanindu Hasaranga would’ve been an obvious pick as an all-rounder but unfortunately he is unfit for this series and in his absence, we are backing the Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka. With 116 runs in 5 matches, he was among the top batsmen in the Australia series.

Bowlers

• H Patel - Harshal Patel was the highest wicket-taker for India in the West Indies series. He picked 5 wickets in 3 T20Is. India will look forward to including him more in the playing 11 to prepare him for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Harshal Patel won the purple cap in the IPL 2021.
• J Bumrah - Jasprit Bumrah is coming back to the T20I side after the T20 World Cup. He is one of the best bowlers in the international circuit currently. In the ODI series against South Africa, Bumrah took 5 wickets in 3 matches. He is our Dream11 captain pick for this match.
• M Theekshana - Theekshana played well in Australia taking 5 wickets in 5 matches. In the absence of Hasaranga, Theekshana now has a lot of responsibility to lead the spin attack against India.
