Going to Eka's earlier post, I'll admit I'm GenZ too and at least for me, some 'woke' concepts are heavily ingrained in my upbringing. Recognizing and calling out toxic masculinity is really high on that list.
See, of course wokeness is basic expected decency for human beings. Especially for the privileged. And calling out toxic masculinity, racism, any kind of systemic, structural and institutionalised oppression that resulted in exclusion of a section of people needs to be tackled and countered at every point, no doubt. Someone in India, making fun of dark skin is something that has to be countered because it has casteist connection and also it prevents a lot of people, especially women in participating in all aspects of society to the full extent. But whining about someone making fun of curly hair and spectacles and someone pointing out the toxicity of a stupid character on a badly written show affecting your mental health? Seriously? Yes, your feelings are hurt, but that is not trauma. That is just life. The world has 7 billion people, you can't expect everyone to like you, agree with you and not hurt your precious feelings. That is the only problem I have with Gen Z. 😅
Like I said there are exceptions in Gen Z. But most of it is performative wokeness is what I felt. The two college going girls in White Lotus is the perfect example of it, especially Olivia.
Yep Olivia is a fine example of people like that in RL...
Couldn't agree more (bold). Having said that, i did start this chat club because there were specific points of disagreement on the mothership that just didn't sit right with me
So I don't know what that says about me...🤣
