Btw , turban is mandatory in Sikhs but Burkha is not mandatory.

As per Muslim religious texts men and women both have to dress modestly. There is a mention of head scarf for both men and women as it was an Arab culture.

All religion have done it’s part to enslave gullible women with these supposedly mandatory rules , it’s on women to stand up for themselves n their future generations.

I don't know what she said. Neither does it matter. However, it is a woman's choice to wear whatever she wishes to. Religion shouldn't be a contributing factor.

Oh for fcuks sake there’s nothing wrong with that analogy. Sonam says a lot of sodumb things but this ain’t one of them unless you already have preconceived notions formed in your mind against Muslims. Also I am not a Muslim, I am a Hindu-Buddhist, feminist, far leftist but I will defend any woman’s rights to wear whatever the heck she wants, whether that be a burka or a bikini. Stop policing women’s clothes.

Nope the analogy doesn't works. Under Sikhism Turban is essential. While Muslims themselves are saying Hijab is choice. It's not Mandatory.

For heaven sake the issue is about girls wearing Hijab in the classroom. Issue isn't about policing women clothing 🤦🏻‍♂️ the girls who are at the core of the issue themselves were not wearing hijab till 2021 December. One organization influenced them to create chaos because Karanataka state where the issue started is going in elections.

We are talking about the hijab. A burqa would understandably be banned for security reasons in some public areas in other countries. As for the hijab (the topic under discussion), the only prominent ban in recent memory to have banned it is France and the French state is a veeeeery different beast from India.

The French state recognises NO state- which in fact would mean no hijab, no head covering and YES no turban.

Exhibit A- https://gulfnews.com/world/europe/sikhs-go-to-court-over-french-turban-ban-1.336083

So tell me again what is so wild about the parallel Sonam is drawing?

Please don’t get educated from ABCD websites. The misinformation campaign is so high , you have to be vigilant about what you read is correct or no.

And yes there is no ban on turbans in France. You can have private institutions banning religious symbols and that is their prerogative.

If the turban is essential for all Sikhs, why do some not wear it then? Same goes for hijab, some Muslim women choose to wear it, some choose not to wear it, some are forced to wear it, yes. But how are you so sure all women are forced to wear it? This should be left up to the woman not the government.

Not an ABCD website- this is legitimate news and a development that was only recently overturned. I know my stuff and I really dont need a lecture on misinformation from you, thank you. I lived in France for 2 years. This ban was changed to preclude Sikh Turbans after 3 years of intense campaigns and activism by prominent Sikh activists.

But of course if in India, anyone advocates for the choice of the hijabs, they are jihadi or they "just need to chill" because the strength of the argument is limited to SCHool UNIform right? LOL.

It is most definitely not optional for either community, but just as there are Sikhs who choose not to wear turbans, there are Muslim women who choose not to wear the hijab.

A ban basically takes away the element of choice. How is that so difficult to grasp?

First thing first school going Sikh don't wear turban.. around 10 yr school kid would wear a small piece of cloth which would only cover the uncut hair that is tied on the head. Then as hair grow it's the cloth size increased which covers entire hair. It's only 10th class an above grown up when that start wearing turban. While hijab covers the entire head, shoulder and the chest area. There have been security breach instances where they can easily hide stuff in hijab. While it's not possible in tight clothing which Sikh boys have to wear.

Again repeating Issue is about Hijab at school. Grown up girls outside educational institutions are free to wear hijab. 🙏
