The movie is good! Can watch it once for the performances especially Deepika and Siddhanth. Actually everyone did thier best

The only concern I had is disconnection with the lead ..more than anyone's agony / situation the screenplay displayed us a very strong narration about Siddhanth. I could see his helplessness and his fears and struggles more than deepika. Of the focus would have been on deepika and Ananya's role it would have been better. That's where the film lost its spark. Instead of feeling the empathy for them,I felt happy that Zain is relived from alisha and Tia...( though it was his death,,but still..)Zain dangling between business and personal life is very natural and kudos for the actor!

Hein? The turn around is because he is a grade 1 social climber. Doesnt mean he cant love people, but not at the cost to himself. Deepika with her pregnancy and demands for commitment was about to ruin his business deal or worse, have him land up at the CBI's door.

He did it to safeguard himself. As Alisha said, he even walked away from his mother to protect himself.

I dont see what's so complex. It's aligned with his personality.

When a therapist or a psychologist or a counsellor takes their first few sessions, most questions are about family / career only. Hence I said her character at the point of taking pills but not reflecting on what the trigger point is makes no sense. Its like pitting 10 before 2. Its just a cinematic way of showing wrong things about a sensitive issue. No light is thrown on whether she is taking these pills on a medical professional’s advise or not. Yes even at 30 or 40 you cant know about your trigger points but if you are seeking help at a level of taking medication, and you are just not even aware of the truth behind your trigger point or try to know, It’s not logical. The way she mistreats her father its onto her because she believes only she is the victim. Basis a childhood incident. If you have seen Dear Zindagi, a very beautiful film about mental health, Kiara’s entire trauma plays itself in her adult life too. Her parents are as ignorant to her needs as they were when she was young. Hence she feels the need to understand her angst, and her bottled up fear and emotions. This movie on the other hand only uses mental health as a way to generate sympathy. Something as important and as less explored as that cannot be a side plot to an accidental murder or infidelity or a startup investment fraud plot. It’s just my view and while its quite easy to pose your preconceived notions on people about their understanding of a subject, I would have appreciated if you didnt come down to being so judgemental lol.

I really dont think people have understood this film or mental health for that matter. Dear Zindagi was a slice of life film about mental health. This is a domestic drama cum thriller where her childhood trauma is a part of her character but not what the entire film is about.

Just because DZ chose to deal with mental health in such a head-on way, where the film literally is about her therapy sessions with her dishy therapist, does not mean every film with similar themes should follow the same trajectory.

Mental health, anxiety. repressed traumas are never such a binary or straight line. Healing for that matter is also not linear and easily resolved as shown in DZ for Alia's character. This film is efinitely not about that. Nor is it using anxiety to generate sympathy. Alisha's mom's death is a big part of her character motivation- who she has become as an adult- feeling stuck, terrified and fearful to repeat her mom's mistakes (which in her mind wrongfully was associated with a social downgrading by moving to Nashik) - this dissatisfaction is why she enters this entire mess with Zain in the first place.

There have been movies that handled these issues without focusing on such scenes..was totally unnecessary..

Also f***..I was literally like Karan's dad...ye kya laga rakha hai !

Do millenials really use it in every other sentence? Pls enlighten me.

Will never forgive Netflix for normalizing this

Never understood what's so cool in it

Problem is makers assume that it is OTT so fill it with such scenes and dialogues

Yea one goes to psychiatrist and then the medical treatment but that doesnt mean their anxiety will go and they will stop having anxiety does it ??? It can last for several years even then they cant get rid of the anxiety no matter the number of counselling ..so your point still doesnt make sense . I dont care about the negative review thats why I mentioned only the thought process which doesnt show any understanding for the people who suffers from anxiety . The counsellor may be the starting point for her medication but one doesnt need to see them forever. Also, she clearly knows her main trigger which is why she is so careful and get anxious to not be stuck like her mother. The psychologist wont even know why and how her mother died to begin with . they will only know her POV .

Gehraiyaan my perspective

The trailer and the promotions were misdirected and like many others I thought that this is a glorifying movie . But when you watch the film we realise that though it didn't preach us with moral values , it gives us glimpse of what happens if we fall for all temptation.

The protagonist is Alisha , a yoga instructor who is very cautious about her life because of the past . All her reaction to the issues in life is based on the major incident happened in her past. She and her partner Karen meets her super rich cousin Tia and Tia's fiance Zain. Tia ,Karen and Alisha grew up together but later their life styles becomes different because of the life choices of their parents. The affluent lifestyle of Tia further creates insecurities in Alisha's mind. Tia's fiance too have similar insecurities and perhaps that resulted in the instant attraction between Alisha and Zain. As the movie progresses, it shows the shallow relationships ,its impact on the people involved with few predictable plots and unpredictable twists.

Dhairya Karwa as Karen has comparitively less screen space but he did his part well. Ananya's Tia is the only character who is comparitively less selfish and she enacted her role really well. Sidhant's Zain was good but nothing extraordinary. To be honest after Gully boy I had high expectations on him.

Deepika's role was well written and that might be the reason she was the best thing in the movie. She nailed her part. Nasruddin Shah proved why he is one of the best actor in Indian cinema. There was one scene Alisha with her dialogue shows her emotional outburst and Nasruddin Shah just expresses his emotional turmoil with expression. Rajat Kapoor though not the role as per his calibre excels in the limited screen space.

This movie even the dialogues are mostly English , the very common F word is used in Hollywood movies is overly used here, after the initial chemistry between the leads ,just like their shallow relationships, the intimate scenes lacked chemistry .

Movie is meant for urban audience. If you like slice of life dramas or if you watch realistic Hollywood movies you will like it. This is not definitely a love story ,not purely a thriller genre but even our life is not thriller but if we look back we know that the life is not less than a thriller ride.

What I liked most.

Spoiler alert

The director didn't made an attempt to create sympathy for any of the lead characters. The viewers get an impression that though Zain and Alisha got instant connection due to their messed up relationship with parents and past ,we also get an impression that Alisha was tempted due to the wealthy , secure life of Zain . Even Zain is aware of this and that could be the reason he hid his financial crisis with Alisha. When Alisha shows up in the third anniversary of Zain and Tia with the big news, like Zain I felt that they finally got struck. When she disturbs Zain in office in the middle of important meeting I felt that both deserves this . Both are selfish people ,but Alisha compared to Zain is better, because, though for different reason she didn't spoil the life of Karen .Also her anxiety for future is somewhat relatable as she was of the impression that the ill-fated past is due to the financial problem so she gave undue importance to it. The only time her character seems to be not justifying her perception is her initial hesitance in getting rid of the pregnancy. I mean she wants to be secure ,so why would one with similar thought process will give a second thought? Zain , I guess never was in love with Tia . It was all about her role in his business ambition. He never showed interest in mending relationship with Tia's mother and was evidently irritated when she points out the favour Tia and his father done on his business. Having said that ,I guess he wasn't in love with Alisha as well ,it was physical attraction.

I am amazed that even after her redeemed version , I didn't feel any sympathy for Alisha . All I felt is like mother ,like daughter. And that's what I liked about this movie. It just shows the reality ,it is not an awareness program on anxiety disorders, suicide etc . Perhaps ,the only message we get is Karma is a bitch.

one thing I totally hate is how current generation are heavily criticized coz they cant handle problems like their older gen . First of all the living conditions , the exposure everything was so different couple of decades ago . Every generation has their own set of issues . we cannot undermine millennials or gen z coz we think they have it easy . the world is much more competitive now and the level of distraction which comes with internet and social media is altogether a different world which older gen wasnt subjected to . Also, now we have a whole gen growing in a pandemic era and they might even grow up having severe social anxiety compared to previous gen . If boomers life wasnt easy then the same applies for current gen too but ofc the factors are different .

Her dad also says ..kyun Nashik me bachhe nahi bade hote kya..he must've tried to explain this to her earlier too.

This is the root cause of all her issues..all her life she resented this move..her cousin grew up in US..she grew up in Nashik..her cousin was lucky to have a good life and she was the most unlucky one in every aspect. Her cousin had it all and she didn't.

And did her mother say this to her or implied any such thing? No. That was her self inflicted notion as a kid..whatever her little mind understood this was it. And her parents didn't clarify which is understandable considering the situation.

One more reason why tier 2 city audience won't connect with the movie 😊

Never said her issues should have resolved if she was taking therapy. But the issue isn’t even touched in the film. Popping pills isn’t the first solution.Talking is, analysing is, getting to the layers is. Anti anxiety pills to koi MBBS dr bhi de sakta hai yaar. Why do we need counsellors or psychologists then. The issue of her mom is made irrelevant towards the end. In a way even Naseer did wrong by forcing his wife to live in a place where she didn’t want to. But towards the end he is basically whitewashed. It’s just a movie that says its ok to behave in a messed up way which is NOT. Even if I consider that Alisha realised her mistake towards the end, that how she messed up stuff , she only feels bad for herself. Self pity! Not for her cousin, not for her ex bf. She doesn’t even try to keep contact with Tia telling her the truth about her and Zain is a far off thing. She forgives herself after Naseer tells her that moving in is the best option. Deeming your toxicity as ok in the name of generational trauma is not ok. My parents didnt do it right so its ok for me to do worse! ? I dont agree with this mentality .
