Vikrant's character was never negative. It was just a complex character which the makers have exploited according to their convenience. Kabhi usko accha dikhate hai to kabhi bura. But hat's off to Rohit's portrayal.

It could be that it was meant to be a Medical drama but ended up with Fish Market Hospital with so dramas, deceit, cheating and topped off with EMA, which just went too far and Deepika reduced to being the other Woman.
