Hinduism has almost no "Mandates"....that includes vegetarianism. Like you said, don't make statements on a religion you have no idea about.

I myself have grown up in Gulf and never was a non muslim forced to wear hijab in my school and we are taking about a islamic monarchy and even they respect human rights....

Exactly, bhakts are just fine with extremism as long as its about Hindus being Nr.1

I remember how bhakts living in gulf countries were posting lots of Islamophobic stuff and then got suspended from their jobs, imagine being that dumb and hateful...

There was a member @mahisa who in another thread was telling that indian muslims have nothing to do with invaders and their culture. Well, i am sure she is not aware how pooular burqa trend is getting nowadays.

@blue: Even if this is the case, there's nothing one can do unless there's a tangible security/health threat.

Which is why I feel the hijab can be and should be accommodated. Burka on the other hand will come under security issue(no offense to anyone who prefers them, but it is what it is) and there needs to be a strict line drawn.

Legally the whole issue is about an institution having the authority to regulate a dress code

Politically : it has become a topic of identity assertion.

I had a colleague who was very vocal about her hatred for Pakistanis and Muslims as well.. Next, I knew she is applying for jobs in UAE and buttering to those same Arab muslim guys just to get that job.. Thank god she didn't get it

Nowhere in the constitution of India does it say that religious symbols are banned in educational institutes. This particular government college clearly decided to enforce its own "law". I understand the intention, but being a public entity it cannot go against the constitution.

These girls are obviously opportunists considering they had no issue till a week back but found a loophole and decided to push the narrative, for moral or financial reasons but its clearly not organic.

They'll easily win the case against the college considering its unconstitutional but will set a bad precedent in a country already at the peak of religious intolerance.

@bold — Bad precedent it is. Patriarchs will have a field day.

I had many Muslim classmates in school and college. School ones never wore hijab. This was early 90s. Neither did the college one. That was early 2000s.

22 years later, girls are fighting for the right to wear hijab. Progressing or regressing?

Choice n all. Choice to ghunghat dalne ki bhi hai. I don’t support that. I call that regressive.

Muslim Educational Society (MES) which runs around 150 educational institutions in Kerala and the Middle-East banned hijab which covers the face of women in all its institutions.

It’s the hypocrisy. Nothing much. Nobody will go after MES. But how damm this school banned it.

2-4 galiya for Karnataka govt. oh wait, not only Karnataka. 4-5 galiya for Indian govt. 😆

I was reading Bar and council’s court hearing tweets yesterday regarding this case. One of the Christian educational institution has also banned Hijab. To that lawyer said, Christian institution is private and constitution gives them freedom to ban. Batao, people will leave hijab to study in Christian institution but not in Govt college. 😆

Minorities ke bade maje hai. Hail constitution. 🥳

PS: Demands on the basis of religion being defended in the name of 'choice' is a very slippery slope. A precedent once set can lead to a lot of regressive idealogies being given leeway just because. But everyone knows what's going to be court's order. And now the ones who weren't even interested in following such practices will follow it just to assert their religious identities or to show the finger to the rest. Unfortunately, if you look at the bigger picture, you are just slipping back into the patriarchal conditioning many have spent years to escape. Par theek hai, ab reforms impose toh kar nhi sakte.

This!!

Once you give in. Then it’s a downfall from there.

India and Indian states have tons and tons of communities. Now every community will start revolting. Personal demands n such. And for vote bank politics, authorities will give in. Just like how reservations quota kept increasing.
