Mere Piya se koi jaake keh de - Aashiana (1952)

Lagan tose laagi balma - Dekh Kabira Roya (1957)

Bairan neend na aaye - Chacha Zindabad (1959)

Lata has reportedly mentioned here and there that Madan Saab was her Favorite one out of all. They had a different aura. A calm so strong that even today when you're in need of comfort you find yourself going back to their tracks.

What a loss Madan Ji's death was and a little early. He died before his time.

Thanks for tagging. Have spent the entire Sunday dedicating to listening to Lata Mangeshkar's songs and watching the last rites. Very very painful

None. What a maestro....My father still says only one sentence to describe her and I couldn't agree more :

"Awaaz aisi thi Lata Ji Ki...Ki maano Koyal hi Kook rahi ho subeh subeh." ❤️

That so true... my mum and dadi is big fan of her... and so m I.

Dil ko chune vali awaz thi unki.... It just never gets old... no matter how many times you listen to her... its charm only grows, every time...

I can't do a tribute like some of you.

You guys are wonderful with your words and knowledge. I loved reading all of them.🙏

I just present some lesser known facts about LataJi.

  • She was named Hema at birth and was later renamed Lata, after a character in her father’s play 'BhaawBandhan' called Latika. Her family name Mangeshkar was derived from the Mangeshi village in Goa.
  • Lata attended school only for a day. She quit when she was scolded for teaching music to other students on her first day. She was home schooled thereafter.
  • In 1979, she was the first Indian to perform with the Wren Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
  • Apart from Indian artistes, Lata loved listening to Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Nat King Cole, the Beatles, Barbra Streisand and Harry Belafonte. She even went to see Marlene Dietrich sing live.
  • She loved pets. At home, Lata Mangeshkar had nine dogs.
  • She also owned every single one of the Sherlock Holmes detective novels.
  • Lata Mangeshkar loved watching cricket. She would reportedly take breaks from recording sessions to watch Test matches. She was also the proud owner of an autographed picture of cricketer Don Bradman.
  • Las Vegas was one of Lata's favourite destinations in the US. She also loved visiting sitar maestro Ravi Shankar's studio, where she once bumped into Beatles member George Harrison.
  • Cars were another passion of hers. A grey Hillman and blue Chevrolet, Chrysler and a Mercedes were some of her prized possessions.

Cheers..d Hema at birth and was later renamed Lata, after a e in Goa.

You are obviously a music lover. Do you have a dog?

I love dogs. I don't mind to pet my friend's dogs, but never owned a dog.

Cheers..

Oh yes Music is an integral part of me. I’d be lost without it!

And yes I do own a doggo. He’s 14 months old and keeps me literally on my toes! 😆
