No. But sensible people need to understand what went wrong, when, and where, and take corrective action. It's India's misfortune that there seem to be no sensible people.

If after 70 LONG YEARS we still have to harp on what happened then and blame the people who got us Independence and we got the privilege of growing up in an independent India and not in an India where Dogs and Indians were not allowed in trains...then sadly we don't have sensible people.....because at this rate we will still keep crying about 1947 even in 2097....because what better way to hide our own incapabilities than to blame others....😳

LMAO! Secularism is literally the most abused and misunderstood concept in India. A huge chunk of people don't even understand what it means. By definition it stands for the complete separation of religion and state and the rejection of religious considerations.

In terms of practical application in India, however, it's just a synonym for appeasement and vote-bank politics. Separate religious law boards and state funded religious institutions clearly violate the secular constitution. Equal treatment is seen as a form of discrimination.

Is being better than British India enough? Was India doing all right after that date in terms of communal harmony (clearly no), economics (no), corruption (no), infrastructure (no), education (no), human rights (no), and other sectors?

My point is not to say BJP is not to blame. Of course they took advantage of it.

Thing is unless regular people open their eyes and acknowledge there was a situation to take advantage of, nothing will change.

Perhaps the Congress will win. They will go right back to what they were doing. Then who knows? Someone worse than Modi might come along.

The pendulum will keep going back and forth unless and until leaders get together and decide on true secularism. One nation, one people, one law. And yeah, keep your religion to yourself. Government doesn't need to know unless you're breaking said laws.

Exactly.. all these years post Independence all we have seen appeasement and vote-bank politics. 75 years and we are still waiting for Universal Civil Code to be adopted.

I doubt that is even possible....some one worse than him? Not possible..

But anyways....imagine the India that Congress had to build up after 1947....India was in tatters...no infrastructure ....nothing...compare that to what BJP got in 2014 and ruined it....I don't care for Congress or any other political party....but I know every one will be better than this one...

@Zeal

Uniform Civil Code ain't happening because BJP needs the issue to continue as much as Congress does.

That might be true.

And Congress did good things. Doesn't make the bad things they did go away. We need to acknowledge both, IMO.

Chanakya (I think) on duties of ruler: to protect the nation and the people, to punish the criminals and reward the honest, to tax justly, and to be fair to all.

When India gets a ruling class who believes this, things will change.
