I agree with everything you're saying except the soon part. I want him to still help her and figure out his feelings until the realization hits him in a few months or so.

What is soon in your timeline though? I think 3 months ITV timeline for him to realize it is a decent amount of time. But in the real or even ideal world it would have been 6 months to a year.
