I’ve read a news article before that though the house they give is for 80 lakhs, the winners have to give 20 lakhs themselves to release it. Maybe stamp duty? One of those winners Dhiwakar had to go around begging to collect that money. This year Sridhar Sena got only 10 lakhs. Lol. What a kodumai.

That makes sense about TDS. In a lot of cases if it’s a “gift” the organisers step in and pay the amount. Example when Sachin Tendulkar was gifted a Ferrari in 2002 he incurred a tax duty of 1.1 crores. Ferrari then paid it off for him. In India when you buy a house, the buyer is made to pay the capital taxes on behalf of the seller. Athu oru kodumai 😔
It’s just that most contestants who come on super singer are shown to be poor, so I don’t know how they will afford this money. Not sure if they are even aware of this condition until they actually win.
