I still don't get how the budget was that high..its a movie about cricket. What did they waste all that money on?

Exactly, 83 is certainly no Lagaan and Ranveer is certainly no Aamir.

Is he wrong for defending his movie?

I watched the movie & I am genuinely impressed by it. It's a great movie. But, yes, probably not a mass appealing one. It's more like an art film.

And after watching the movie I am all the more confused where did they put in those alleged 270 crores?? It doesn't have the look or feel of a very high budget movie😕

Definitely the pandemic contributed to it

Spiderman is a franchise since about 20 years obviously it will get more business and pushpa already had strong word of mouth before lockdowns in India

South movies always collect the max in the first week. It was the same thing for Bahubali or any other movie.

It was in Hindi that almost no one knew the actors or directors, and it was a dubbed movie not even an original. Also no marketing efforts were made. That's why despite collecting 27 crore in the first week, it went on to make 50 crore more in the next two weeks. Pushpa (Hindi)'s fourth weekend collections in India = 8 crore. 83's third weekend collections in India = 3.5 crore.

Imagine having such a big starcast, big director, big banner, original (language) film, great promotions, good reviews etc. and still audience choosing an unknown face, unknown director, dubbed language film, poor promotions, etc. This is a massive rejection and egg in the face moment for 83 in particular and Bollywood in general.

Overseas numbers are not considered for judging the box office verdicts of films. If they were, almost all of SRK's films in the last decade would be hits. But they were duds here.

I don't why so many people are trying to prove that 83 was some great movie despite so much rejection from the audience. "83" is the BIGGEST DEBACLE in recent times BIGGER FAILURE than "Bombay Velvet". Accept it and move on. Don't bring out HALF TRUTH kind of numbers, comparing it with "Pushpa". "Pushpa" is the BIGGEST HIT OF 2021 .

The box office is about two films at the opposite ends of the scale and it is likely to remai this way for some time. One film Pushpa (Hindi) has actually turned out to be the biggest success story post the pandemic in the Hindi markets while the other film 83 (Hindi) joins the ranks of films like Bombay Velvet (2015), Drona (2008) and Deedar E Yaar (1982) to be among the biggest disasters of all time.

Puhspa (Hindi) on its fourth Saturday collected around 2.50 crore nett to take its overall total to 76 crore nett, The growth is not as much as the last two weeks but that is bound to happen at some point due to the sort of run the film has been on till date. The collections remain superb in most of the places where it is being screened. It is closing on the 83 numbers day by day.

83 (Hindi) grossed 1.25 crore nett on its third Saturday to take its overall total to 94 crore nett. This film has also not shown growth like last week but due to the low collections its hardly matters if it is 1.25 crore nett or 1.50 crore nett. The film is heading towards 100 crore nett but much will depend on the collections in week four and if 100 crore nett does come it will have to thank god for small mercies and an open run in a holiday period.
