Prologue...

It was mehendi night. Didi sprinted from here to there for the preparations for the upcoming event. Aryan had not seen her this happy since...well, since she was a suhagan herself. It made him smile as he watched from the second floor. His mother too was speaking in broken English with the events manager about the last of the details.

His eyes scanned the floor for Imlie. She was not there. Aryan turned to go to the balcony when he collided with her.

Aryan, gruffly: You are not dressed.

Imlie sniffed: I was just talked with my Amma on the phone. Connection nehi mila toh upar a gaye.

Aryan: I did not say you could not come upstairs. This is your home. I said, you are not dressed. (Pause) Are you having second thoughts?

Imlie looked up at him now: No.

Aryan: Well. If you are sure.

Imlie: I just wanted to have her here, that's all. She said she could not be here because there was no bus from Pakdandiya today.

Aryan nodded and shoved his hands into his pocket.

Imlie looked down again morosely: I will go get dressed.

"Imlie! Imlie!" Her new Saas-to-be called her from downstairs. "Look who is here!"

Imlie looked over the banister and down at the foot of the stairs.

Imlie screamed: Amma!? Amma!

Amma: Be careful!

She was about to fall down the stairs in her hurry to run down when Aryan caught her by the arm and steadied her.

Aryan, sternly: One step at a time.

Imlie blinked back tears: This was your doing?

Aryan smiled despite himself: It was our secret.

Imlie grabbed him in a quick hug, taking his breath away, and rushed down the stairs.

I am in the middle of another Adilie story, but felt like writing something for this new cute pair. Let me know if it looks interesting enough to read with a comment.
