Fateh's extra angst is obviously a step towards redemption and eventually Fatejo at the end, but if Jass hadn't told him the truth, he'd have been happy enough to settle with Jasmine, and that's where the redemption arc doesn't quite sit well with me. However he's willing to let her go with Angad because he thinks she deserves better, which is a plus point in my books.
When you have Jasmine as an obvious villain due to her kaands, it becomes easy for Fateh's character to go for Tejo and think of her as his true love by the process of elimination.
If Jasmine wasn't a villain, would Fateh have returned to Tejo?
Or let's put it this way, if Jasmine decides to go through the same redemption path that Fateh is doing now, would F feel compelled to take her back, assuming Fatejo haven't got back till then. (I think this is a small possibility because T told J that she hoped there would be a day when J would genuinely love Fateh)
