Unpopular opinion - Abhimanyu seems kinda creepy

Haven't watched this show in ages after months of toxic Kaira interactions killed my love for the lead pair. Came back to it last week after hearing about the leap and that Harshad Chopda (!) was going to be the new ML. Ok so I have adored HC as Sahir Azim Chaudhury and Aditya Hooda but both characters are definitely on the dark side of lover boy. Never saw him as Prem or Onu or any of his more 'pure' romantic characters so maybe I'm biased. But, right from his entry, Abhi struck me as a character with a creepy uncomfortable edge. An older man (even if he is handsome and successful) pursuing a young innocent girl so aggressively and then projecting feelings on her without even a proper conversation, grabbing her in front of her entire family, publicly insisting she loves him when she's never said any such thing to him, referring to her possessively by a family nickname after knowing her for what, a week? I dunno... I'm getting very uncomfortable vibes. And what was that insane throwing himself down the steps in realization of love? Even crazy-in-love Kartik didn't go so far! I'm starting to feel like Kairav with all his frowning and side-eyeing of Abhi😆

And some of HC's voice modulation/expression choices seem to just reinforce this negative impression for me. When he's driving to her house for the tilak, the expression on Abhi's face seems just so... unhinged with the staring eyes and the creepy smile. (Also - why WHY cover HC's beautiful dark eyes with those weird lightish contacts??) And then yesterday his intonations in the 'gharelu doctor' dialogue in the hospital sounded off-putting. He puts on this weird voice like he's talking to a small child whenever he talks to Akshu. And what's with the constant 'she's just like Maa' comparisons?😒

HC is such a talented method actor so I don't know where this confusion is coming from (some kind of twist down the road or just bad writing from the CVs?) but I get whiplash from Abhi being a suave, confident, mature doctor one minute and a big mama's boy with boundary issues and over-possessive/control freak tendencies the other. I would probably watch HC read the phone book...especially if he shoots that mega-watt smile of his from time to time... but Abhi creeps me out.

I agree with all your points lol but Abhi doesn't creep me out because I know this is all just bad direction by the makers. I keep saying this is is similar to Kabir Singh and the only reason these characters are loved is because they make the female lead fall in love with them and well because they're handsome.

If this was played by someone who actually looked 37 and Akshara didnt like the advances then you can imagine the hate he would have recieved.

I'd still have watched it if they had made him obsessive and problematic but the fact is that RS has not thought of this. If I'm wrong then I'll be pleasantly surprised because I wouldnt mind seeing something this different for ITV.

RS wants Abhi to be the sanskari guy who fights goons to protect his girl but then they also wanna make him thirsty and have intimate daydreams about her. So it's the makers, they are giving mixed feelings.

You're right - the CVs trying to have it both ways. I saw an interview with HC from earlier this year and he pretty much looked like his usual boyish, smiley self but Abhi has been styled to appear more mature/rugged. They have gone for this snacc daddy look which emphasizes the hot older man/innocent virginal girl trope, which could work without the cringe factor if Abhi dials down the obsession/aggression and Akshu grows a backbone. Abhi character seems best when he's in the poised, calm, sensible doctor mode. it makes sense that Akshu, with her anxiety and insecurities, would be most attracted to this side of him (although she hasn't had a single attack now that she's been placed in truly anxiety-provoking situations, so go figure...). But it seems RS is back to his 'high on drama, low on logic' storytelling tricks - so who knows...For now, I'm just watching for the eye candy

i dont know may be they just want him to show he is mad nd deep in his love. After Tere liye i m watching him in yrkkh so its a huge diff in face now the face looks very tonned earlier was little chubby. Dont know how they built up his character but kartik nd naira's character were totally opposite from abhi nd akshu nd we shuld'nt compare. Even old akshara nd naitik character were totally opposite from kartik naira.Even i dont like his constant staring earlier but now in yesterday epi it becomes there eye lock...nd in maximum serials they show eye locks between couples....its quite common. And i think being a mama's boy is good for there wife...mama's boy respect there mother so they respect nd care there wife too....they r emotional person.

I agree with everything you have to say and yet have no creepy or wierd feeling about it. Coz The attraction is both ways.

If two people agree to a relationship no other person's opinion is needed.

Now if she rejects Abhi again then he needs to completely back off and till she does not come back groveling he must not budge.

coz if he melts at her one look then he is not the determined man I have made him out to be in my mind.

I kind of understand his instant connection because I have seen it and felt it and I have seen girls who have deep feelings and still not able to accept them in front of the man in spite of having no real issue to deny other than maybe their own self confidence of whether they are good enough for the man or not.

So well, I think we all review things through our own sieve of experience.

I kind of like his older look, and his sharp chiseled jawline is simply awesome. And the cuteness that Akshara has fits the simple, soft and family oriented young girl.

They fit together very well its obvious in their acting.

@Bold Basically. Christian grey na baan jaye baad mein.

They should just pick one though. Either make him goody two shoes or a problematic character. Naitik worked well as a shudh ghee type character but I'm sure people would accept a problematic character too if it was portrayed well. I dont mean problematic in the sense that he kidnap Akshara or force her to love him. He could just be someone who has issues and slowly they can work on it. I would love to see a main lead with flaws because we are not perfect.

With Akshara, it seems like she has fallen in love with the first person who gave her line.

Btw is that natalie wood in your dp?

True. Akshara was blushing hard and ran away as soon as she realised Abhi's eyes were following her. That girl was loving the attention 😆

But some people would have issues with Abhi ka lingering stares because sometimes Akshara wasnt even aware he was doing that.

And I dont think it's a bad thing if boys do want their partners to be like their mum, I mean it's okay and a compliment for Akshara.

I wouldn't say he is creepy but he is lost in wonderland😆 Not once but twice he is making public declaration of his love then aksharas love but didn't think of talking to her first . What's the hurry I don't understand .

He is just assuming that akshara loves him..it's a strong feeling and he is right ..he hasn't heard it from her yet..now that he will , if she still chases her and loses his mind over her then i would say he is acting creepy. He should stay away from her and let her deal with her issues , she should come forward and accept her love..stop being a sacrificial lamb for her unworthy sister..till that time therr is no use running behind her .

This is very true - I didn't grow up in India so guys that try to 'patao' young women from a position of authority/seniority and don't take no for an answer or the term "mama's boy" have some very negative connotations. I guess point well taken that the cultural context in an ITV show is quite different😆 That said, I think Abhi's about to get the sharp reality check that he's been asking for... Maybe now he'll back off to nurse his broken heart and gives Akshu some space instead of going full out psycho stalker... those two do have excellent chemistry so I hope they don't go the way of Kaira who became unbearably toxic towards the end.

I like this look too btw, very lean mean sex-machine🤣

@Silveraliax - Harshad as Christian Grey? Hmm...😳 Flawed/grey characters can be very interesting unless the writers don't realize they're writing them as severely flawed and keep pretending like they're some kind of ideal (post-2017 Kaira being a case in point)

Yes it's Natalie Wood - my username is the nickname my American roommate calls me (angrezi style-pronunciation of my first and last name, like the West Side Story song...).
