Deepika was getting critical acclaim for Piku, Ram Leela and was praised as the only good thing about Chennai Express which was otherwise a forgettable and caricaturish film. She was praised for her film choices too. For eg she may not have been the best thing about Aarakshan but that was a risky subject to choose back then (caste and reservations are usually volatile issues in India).

During Piku, Ram Leela phase she did get lot of acclaim.

I kind of understood obsession Parveen and Rekha had for Amitabh because he was tall, had a deep baritone, belonged to an elite literary, well networked family, was well educated and is known to be a gentleman atleast in public and was the biggest superstar of his time. In that era actresses were also more traditional minded in their attachment or need for a man compared to today's women.

But obsession for Ajay Devgan never made sense for me. Nor did these modern girls wearing tattoos and rings for RK or still obsessed with him, despite often being more successful than him in the same profession. I mean there have been times when Deepika and Alia were having better run at box office and won critical acclaim and awards ore in comparison to Ranbir. Or Katrina was also doing better at BO than Ranbir. Still they clung to him and craved approval of his family like he was a prize to compete for.

I think you are giving him way too much credit. Both Deepika and Katrina upgraded even I hate Ranveer. Deepika is simply in a better position and with a better family. But even when she was dating him, she never tried to please Neetu anyway. Alia is the only one of his gf trying so hard because not even Kat was doing that.

that does not means she was critically accailmed than ranbir the dude is way better than her even on his worse days

well when you compare crafts wise atleast alia can match upto ranbir unlike deepika

Deepika did meet Neetu and Riddhima. So did Katrina.

Deepika has kept close to the Kapoor family which reflects in her meeting Rishi Kapoor when he was abroad for treatment as well. That does show she had developed deep regard for the Kapoor family, regardless of how her relationship with Ranbir played out later. I do not recall Padukone family being close to Bollywood otherwise. So obviously the bond between Deepika and Kapoors must have developed only during her relationship with Ranbir earlier.

And honestly, it's not hard to date actresses if you're a semi-successful actor. Ranbir is no exception. Ajay Devgan, ugly and charmless, dated Karishma, Raveena, Kajol and god knows who else. Every nepo-baby seems to be into Kartik Aryan. Ranveer Singh got to date Anushka and Deepika, even though he has one of the most annoying personalities ever. Vicky Kaushal got THE Katrina Kaif.

As long as the guy is semi-successful and making good money and from the industry, they can date top actresses. It's not that hard.

I thought it was obvious when they did that ramp walk and he was talking she was looking at him with sheer disgust and then she had to compensate the next day with a pic because one shot one place a whole article talking about her behaviour toward him and who can forget the infamous #whyonlydeepika throwing him under the bus for Luv Rajan

Okay we can keep aside critical acclaim part but commercially Deepika was always doing way better than Ranbir and was more popular than him even before she entered Bollywood because she had already made a mark as a top supermodel. And it is golden phase for any actor to get critical acclaim, popularity and box office success at same time and Deepika did manage to get a combination of all such factors during Chennai Express, YJHD, Piku, Ram Leela, Cocktail phase.

I agree though, that Ranbir has always got more critical acclaim than Deepika as an actor.

Rishi Kapoor is beforehand a costar of Deepika. When She was dating RK both of them did not like her and she did not try to get in their good book, Neetu talked about how she feels like she is taking advantage of her son. It’s only years later that Neetu started to appreciate and talk about her, they met at a function and they said hi. That’s pretty much it. There’s no bond, simply no dislike. Plenty of celebs went to meet him in London.
