🥰 One of my favs, “While you were sleeping” w/ Sandra Bullock & Bill Pullman.
It’s such an odd romantic comedy & bc it’s from the early 90s - the nostalgia is so real
So seems like I'm updating after a decade😆 which of course is not the case. I had this completed a few days back but couldn't find the right time to post. Anyway, meri kutai mat karna yeh padhne ke baad.
Part 5
Why was he here?’
He asked himself once again looking up the building where there was a magnanimous insignia of A&K.
It had all transpired so quickly. 3 days back the evening of Paritosh’s return, Kavya had come running into his arms, crying about how she had failed yet another interview.
It had been her 11th this week but to no avail. Even he could not place why such an experienced woman like her was being denied everywhere.
He had been unable to offer anything but empty consolations that day. And the next day, all hell had broken loose. His café was raided by food inspector on account of violation of hygiene standards as someone had tipped them off. And until the investigation was underway, his café could no longer function.
Worse was the notice he had received from A&K’s legal team. While taking loan against the house, Anupama had signed the house deed to Anuj until he was returned the full amount. And according to the contract, the down payment of 5 lakh had to be paid this month only. Since half the house was under his name, he had to be the one to pay half the amount. The issue was,he had no savings. All of it was spent in setting up the café and going through daily necessities.
Samar and Kinjal did earn more than enough but his pride as a father didn’t allow him to ask them for support. Kavya had been sitting duck for long enough and the café was in deep waters too. And Anupama! She could easily pay up his share too, only that his ego didn’t approve.
So, here he was outside Anuj’s cabin, awaiting his turn, in the hopes of negotiating with the man. Though he had a gut feeling that it wasn’t going to be easy.
As he entered inside, Anuj looked up from his files. “Mr. Shah, can you bring that stick over here?” He gestured to the hockey stick standing by the door and Vanraj complied, puzzled.
Placing the stick in Anuj’s corner as he had pointed, Anuj thanked the man and nodded towards the chair,“Have a seat, Mr. Shah”
“So, how can I help you?”Anuj asked politely, his smile but a mask, for his fangs were ready to sink into the despicable and oblivious shah.
“Mr. Kapadia…I..uh..can I perhaps pay my share of down payment at a later date?” Vanraj asked upfront, biting his cheeks as he saw ghost of a smirk on Anuj’s face.
“That’s not my money, Mr Shah. It was the company that loaned the money to you. Unfortunately I can offer no reprieve, though I’m sure Anu could easily pay your share too. She transferred 2.5 yesterday only!” Anuj remarked casually and Vanraj clenched his fist, his unnatural anger simmering. “That’s my share of the house so I should be the one to pay for it!”
“Fair enough!” Anuj shrugged leaning back in his chair, as he scrolled through his phone.
He had not been misplaced in judging Vanraj. This man lacked the rationale to make intelligent decisions. He would never let his ego take a plunge.
‘Well cheers to that, I can manipulate him easy’
Vanraj roused from his chair and was making his way for the door when Anuj interrupted him. “You do realize that you only have two more days? And if you fail to do so, my company will be taking your share of the house under their control until you pay the entire amount+ the penalty interest”.
Vanraj nodded well aware of the terms. Anupama had signed a ridiculous contract and he had to be the one bearing the brunt of it.
Anuj stared at Vanraj calculatingly. A cornered rat may flail around if pushed too much. There existed a very tiny probability that Vanraj would actually seek Anu and the other member’s help if it became too much.
He had to erase that possibility altogether. He was going to provoke vanraj till he was stripped of his sensibility.
‘And then I will strike!’
“By the way, I heard your café was raided? You must be tight on money!” Anuj added, his expression one of faux pity as he made no attempt of hiding it.
‘So the news had reached his ears!’ Vanraj thought bitter, for he wanted none of his pity.
Anuj arched an eyebrow, in appreciation. So he still had some semblance of control. Won’t be long though!
“Oh, and didn’t Mrs. Shah flunk her 11th interview this week? So unfortunate!” Anuj tsked, and spared a glance at Vanraj only to see the man’s eyes widen.
Bravo!
“How do you….” Vanraj turned around to face the man, his expression one of alarm.
Anuj grinned in response, continuing with the jab. “Oh!Wasn’t Paritosh thrown out of his job too? Actually, he had that coming…what with his severe lack of professionalism and all”.
A snarl crossed Vanraj’s features then as he took a threatening step forward, while Anuj smirked victoriously.
“It was you!” It was a statement, filled with extreme reproach.
And all Anuj offered in return was an amused expression, blinking his eyes and bowing his head slightly in acknowledgement.
Vanraj’s temper hit the roof almost instantly and he rushed forward, to take the man by collar. However, Anuj raised his finger and nodded his head in negative, all mirth drained from his face.
“Better act wise in my space. You act impertinently, and I will have the security escort you out of the premises, while allowing the invited reporters to take full coverage of the drama. And soon you will have your ‘frowny’ face on the national television. Would you like that? It will make for a worthwhile spectacle though!”
“You will do no such thing!” Vanraj retorted, “Anupama will get dragged in too”.
Anuj laughed then as vanraj furrowed his brows, “Oh, Mr shah! You truly are short sighted! If I have enough power to blacklist your wife, enough influence to make Mrs. Dave give up on your son, what makes you think I lack the money to bend the news and reporters at my fancy?”
“I already have my piece ready to print with your photo-Vanraj shah, once a man of morals, was being dragged out of affluent bizman Anuj Kapadia’s cabin, when he tried to assault the man. Reports state that he had come to ask Mr kapadia for help in settling the case with food inspector, but when Mr. Anuj denied to be a part of his lofty schemes, the man threatened him of dire consequences and defamation by making false allegations against him, as he had done in the past on numerous occasions”, Anuj finished reciting his story before taking out a few photos from the drawer.
“And I will tag these photos, and written testimonies along too where you were calling me and my partner names at the bhumi pujan ceremony”.
Vanraj was utterly stupefied as he heard Anuj.
“You’ve planned all of this?”
“Finally, you get it!” Anuj clapped his hands in glee, locking the photos back in his drawer.
“Why are you doing this?” In the face of threat looming over his head, Vanraj asked a valid question surprising Anuj.
“Why?! It’s revenge Mr. Shah! You thought all of you will play games with me, and I’ll know none of it. I’ve long back come to know of the drama you staged the night I was out to propose Anu”, He had started off calm and recalling the incident again, made him go through a range of emotions- sadness, despair and then anger.
“Were you expecting to go scot free after making me and Anu miserable?” Anuj barked out a laugh, as he supported his weight against the desk and crossed his arms.
“If Anupama were to know of this, she w—
Anuj slow clapped, cutting Vanraj’s threat, “Please go ahead”, Anuj shrugged, his brows high on his forehead and then after a pause, added, “Though, will she believe it?”
Anuj smirked, pocketing his hands, his gait oozing confidence, “She will not. And you know it. And what makes you think that I will concur to these deeds in front of Anupama?”
He had leaned forward by now, as he whispered the ending words, “And you don’t have means to expose me. Do you?”
And as he saw Vanraj grab the end of chair in a death grip,Anuj pulled back, smiling at his silent acquiescence.
“So Mr. Shah, you can go about your predicament in two ways. One is your routine theatre, where you will accuse me without evidence, blame Anupama for your incompetence and demonstrate in front of baa, Mrs Shah,Paritosh and Pakhi, your ineptitude as the man of the family. And then Anu will gladly pay in your stead, owing to the magnanimity of her heart. All you stand to forfeit in the process, is your pride, your measly self-respect and your scarce life—
Vanraj glowered at the man while Anuj leveled him with a menacing stare of his own, “—because I will crush you if even a speck of your hatred were to scar my Anupama”.
“So you admit to your feelings finally?” Vanraj questioned with a condescending look.
Anuj scoffed in response, his gaze withering. “You are terribly misunderstood if you think I’ll grace you with a reply”.
He cocked his head then continuing the conversation, “The second option is where you concede to my proposal”.
“What proposal?” Vanraj enquired arrogantly.
Anuj clicked this tongue then, shaking his head. He had the audacity to behave in such a manner, despite being on the edge of a cliff.
Not done, Vanraj Shah.Not done!
Bahot khel liya fair.Ab aur nahi. I will have you bow down in front of my demands, by hook or by crook.
Anuj loosened his tie and pulled his perfectly tucked shirt out. Vanraj looked on confused, as Anuj threw his glasses on the ground and stomped on them. He then walked over to the nearest wall and Vanraj looked on bewildered as Anuj slammed his head into the wall.
“Mr. Kapadia!” Vanraj shouted while Anuj blinked his eyes ,his head spinning. Dang! This hurts! Let's keep it light!
And as soon as his eyes were focused, he rammed his head into the wall again.
“Mr. Kapadia!! What are you doing?!” Vanraj stepped forward as he tried to restrain Anuj from the madness he was partaking in.
Anuj screamed in response, his voice scratchy, “What are you doing, Mr. Shah?!! Let go. Let go this instant!”
He wriggled out of Vanraj’s grip then and stumbled over to the opposite cabinet, where he tossed over the glass showpiece as it shattered.
“Anuj sir?” The receptionist knocked at the door, her voice worried. “Sir, are you alright?”
Anuj ceased with the charade then as he straightened up, and caressed the bump on his forehead. He winced loudly, on purpose. “It hurts, Mr Shah!”
“Ye tum kya…” Vanraj started, his pitch high but as his eyes flew to the red on Anuj's forehead and he sensed the commotion on the other side of the door, he lowered his voice down, “What are you doing? Cease this nonsense!”
Anuj went around his desk then and pulling out a contract from the top drawer, slammed it on his desk.
“Sign it, or go to jail. Your choice, my way or out of my way?”.
“What the hell— Vanraj had barely growled, when Anuj groped the handle of hockey stick, his hand gloved.
“S-I-G-N the damn papers!” Anuj hissed raising the hockey stick in air, “or when this thing breaks open my skull, you will be going to jail for attempt of murder because it will be your fingerprints on the alleged weapon”.
“What is this madness?!” Vanraj was taken aback by this facet of Anuj’s personality.
“You've yet to see the extent of it!” Anuj declared as his gestured to the pen.
“Isme kya…” Vanraj hesitated; he was officially caught between rock and a hard place.
“Quickly, Mr Shah! Do it before my patience wears out, and I allow those hungry reporters in for a live coverage! This blood is on you”, Anuj signalled to his forehead.
“Sir, are you alright?!” One employee called from outside and Vanraj found his clammy hands inching forward.
“Now! Mr Shah!” Anuj pressurized once again.
“I am doing it, dammit!!!” Vanraj shouted back as he finally signed the papers and Anuj snatched them instantly, his lips stretching into a smirk. Caught you!

SOOO....how was it?😆 I tried my best to justify Vanraj getting caught in Anuj ke games. Baki upto your discretion. Oh, next part onwards romance ki start hai🤪Toh be generous😆
