Kachche Dhaage (Family Reunion on pg 3)

After seeing the new BTS segments, I couldn't resists writing this short story! Hope you enjoy it!

Raavi laid numb in her cold and empty bed! All her hopes and dreams had shattered into so many pieces that it seemed impossible to gather it all back again! Shiva was getting married today! He really did want to be free of her, she realized. She had never known just how much he hated her but now that she did, it broke her completely.

She left Pandya house four days ago after their final fight. Dhara and Rishita tried stopping her but this time, Gaumbi asked her to leave.

When Dhara argued, he said, "Agar humaari beti hogi aur kal uska pati usse itani badtameezi karega toh kya hum apni gudiya ko waha rehne denge Dhara?"

Dhara was struck with the reality of Raavi's situation and hugged her. She cried and asked Raavi to not forget her Di! Gautam, Rishita, and Krish hugged her, too, and asked her to keep in touch. Raavi promised and with a heavy heart took one last look at Shiva. He stood there without any remorse.

She walked up to him and said, "Mukt hone ke liye tujhe teen din ka intezaar karne ki koi zaroorat nahi hai!" With that she took off her Mangalsutra and put it in his hand shocking everyone.

"Ja di tujhe mukti!" she said looking deep into his eyes and added, "aaj se tera mera koi rishta nahi!"

He looked momentarily shaken but she told herself that her eyes were playing tricks on her. She turned around and saw Suman glaring at her poisonously. Raavi looked right back at her with a stern resolve to not get intimidated by her and walked out of the house without taking her blessings or looking back.

Three days later, Raavi refused to go to the court. She called her lawyer and asked him to take care of the final proceedings by himself. Since everything was settled, said, and done and this final hearing was just a formality, her lawyer agreed (*). She didn't want to see Shiva at all for the rest of her life. Few hours later, her lawyer informed her that everything was taken care of leaving her numb. Shortly after that she got the news that Shiva was getting married to Disha the very next day. And everything was over once and for all.

Now as she laid in her cold and empty bed alone, she tried to think about herself and her life but she couldn't stop thinking about Shiva. She hated herself for giving Shiva so much power over her. She needed a distraction, she thought, and went to the living room and turned on the TV.

As soon as Raavi left four days ago, Suman started spitting venom at her. Dhara and Rishita were thoroughly disgusted and when Suman asked for Haldi milk, neither of them responded and went directly to their rooms. Suman started taunting Gautam and Dev for their wives behavior but they, too, didn't pay any heed to her and left. Suman started fuming and yelling about her bahus being disrespectful and sons being petticoat chaap. Krish went to his bed and grabbed Shiva's pillow and blanket from his bed and angrily thrust them in his hands.

"Aaj tu bhi mukt ho gaya aur tera kamra bhi! Mere paas sone ki koi zaroorat nahi hai!" Krish said glaring at Shiva and went to sleep.

Suman saw this and started bad mouthing Raavi again. Shiva was numb and couldn't bare Suman anymore. "Bas kar Ma! Chali gai na ab woh! Ab toh usse kosna bandh kar! Jaa ke so ja apne kamre mein!" Shiva said and went to his room.

Now, standing in front of a mirror in a new sherwaani, Shiva felt as if he was drowning. Raavi had left the house four days ago but it felt like he had been living without her forever. His room felt so frozen and dark without her. Not seeing her colorful dresses and saaris in his closet was chipping at his heart. He knew he had hurt her but when she handed him her Mangalsutra, his entire world had collapsed. No one had been speaking to him or even looking at him since Raavi left. He understood why and he wasn't making any excuses.

"Yeh hi sahi hai!" he told himself as he walked out to the mandap.

(*) I'm in US and here, in some states, if the divorce is uncontested and everything is settled between both the parties, either or both can skip the final hearing, which at that point is just a formality.

P.S: I live in the US totally understand the uncontested divorce laws and know you have used it here since it’s fiction. But Indian laws on Divorce are totally different in reality which sucks sometimes!

On the day of Shiva and Raavi's final hearing, Suman had asked Dhara to get money from the safe to get gold jewelry for Disha. Dhara fumed with rage and instead of getting the money, she just gave her the keys to the safe and left with Rishita to go to her brother's house. When they came back in the evening, they saw that Suman had organized a small ceremony where she gifted Disha gold jewelry and expensive outfits leaving Dhara and Rishita outraged. No one except Suman and Kanta was happy about Shiva's marriage but they all stayed to attend it for the sake of family and Suman's reputation. However, Dhara and Rishita had firmly told Gautam and Dev that they wouldn't be participating in any capacity whatsoever. When Dhara saw Shiva come and sit in the mandap, she couldn't stop herself and went to him.

"Aaj tune saabit kar diya ke tu mera Shiva nahi hai!" She said heartbroken and added, "Mera baccha bohot samjhdaar aur saaf dil ka tha! Gussa aata tha usse lekin woh galat ka saath kabhi nahi deta tha. Kya ho gaya hai tujhe? Kyun kar raha hai yeh sab?" Tears started rolling down her eyes as she said this and when he didn't reply, she left, shattered.

Shiva was heartbroken. First Raavi left and now Dhara! He didn't know if he could go through with this but he told himself that this had to happen and stayed put. Soon the guests started arriving and the priest asked to call Disha. At first Suman looked at Dhara and Rishita but they didn't move. Furious, Suman asked Kaanta to go get Disha. A few minutes later, Disha came to the mandap and sat down next to Shiva. Suddenly there was a ruckus at the door and the police came in.

Sitting in front of the TV, Raavi tried watching music videos, a movie, a boring TV show, a comedy show, & a nature documentary but nothing was distracting her from the thoughts of Shiva. She kept reliving the good days from the haveli. She remembered when he came between her and the falling rocks, when he applied medicine on her wounds, when he walked with her to make sure she was safe, & the way their hands touched. She remembered how he had always protected her; but now, that Shiva was gone! She missed him so much and was at the verge of falling apart when her attention was drawn to the news channel she had stopped at. Suddenly, as if she was struck by lightning, she got up and ran out of the house.

At Pandya Niwas, the family was shocked seeing the police. Suman immediately accused Janardhan for this new drama and taunted Rishita but Gautam suggested that they should talk to the police before accusing people. As Gautam approached the officer, Shiva and Disha got up.

Shiva looked at Disha & asked, "kya hua? Tu itani ghabhraai hui kyu hai?"

"Woh yeh police?" Disha said and looked disturbed.

"Hua hoga kuch! Hamaare ghar mein yeb sab chalta rehta hai. Aadat daal le!" Shiva said calmly.

Disha smiled nervously and looked at her parents who looked equally worried.

"Kya baat hai inspector?" Gautam asked.

The officer looked around and said, "Hamaare paas arrest warrant hai Ms. Disha aur unki gang ke khilaaf!" Inspector said and looked at Disha and her parents.

Everyone was shocked hearing this! Suman started blabbering & defending Disha. Disha started defending herself and her family, too.

"Inspector aapko galatfemi hui hai. Maine toh kuch kiya hi nahi." Disha said and looked at Shiva and said, "mera koi gang nahi hai."

"Ms Disha, humaare paas proof hai ke aap ek chor hai." Inspector said.

"Kya?" Dhara & Rishita said at once remembering the expensive gold jewelry that Suman had gifted her.

"Nahi! Maine kuch chori nahi kiya. Aapko kisine galat information di hai Inspector. Mein toh ..." Dhisha said but just then Raavi came running.

Seeing her, Disha walked to her and grabbed her by the arm and said, "Yeh ladki mujhe fasaana chahti hai. Shiva ki pehli biwi hai yeh aur divorce ho gaya fir bhi Shiva ka aur mera peecha nahi chod rahi!" Outraged, Raavi snatched her arm back & pushed Disha away from her.

"Dekha Inspector! Yeh kaise mujhe dhakka de rahi hai. Yeh meri aur Shiva ki shaadi nahi hone dena chahti." Disha said and added, "Shiva tum kuch bolo na? Bataao Inspector ko ki tumhaari pehli biwi kis hadh tak gir gayi hai!"

Raavi was about to rebuke but Shiva started walking towards her & the Inspector. He stood next to Raavi, looked at the Inspector, and said, "Inspector sahaab, Raavi meri pehli biwi nahi hai!" shocking everyone. Raavi was speechless & numb again. She was about to turn away and leave when Shiva held her hand and said, "Raavi meri eklauti biwi hai!" surprising everyone.

Shiva looked at Raavi & she understood his play! Dhara, Gautam, Dev, Rishita, & Krish were shocked but there was a happy shock on each of their faces. Suman, Kanta, and Disha were perplexed. Disha walked to Shiva & grabbed his arm. This time, Raavi didn't back down as she came & stood between Disha and Shiva. Shiva smiled seeing Raavi's possessiveness.

Suman asked, "Shiva kya bol raha hai? Tum dono ka toh divorce .... " but Shiva cut her off and said, "nahi hua Ma! Mera aur Raavi ka talaaq nahi hua."

Raavi was shocked hearing this but before anyone could ask about the divorce matter Shiva needed to take care of Disha. So he gently pulled Raavi behind him and stood between Disha & his family.

"Aapko phone maine kiya tha Inspector. Aur Disha ki aur uski gang ki tasveer bhi maine hi appko bheji thi!" Shiva said shocking everyone yet again.

Shiva told the officer and his family that a few days back, he had seen a news article in an old newspaper about a girl and her gang who went to small towns and pretended to fall in love with men and earn their and their families' trust to get married. Once the marriage was fixed, they would happily take all the expensive gifts and run away on the wedding day right before the pheras were complete. He explained to the Inspector that the blurred picture of the girl in the article looked familiar so he had contacted the police with Disha and her family's latest pictures and they had confirmed that the girl in the article was indeed Disha and her parents were her gang partners. The whole family was shocked to the core.

When Shiva was explaining all this to the inspector, Disha and her fake parents started walking back slowly. Disha's bag was already with her partners when they decided to run. But before they could cross the mandap, Shiva grabbed Disha by the arm and his friends blocked her partners. Rishita saw the bag in their hands and snatched it and saw that along with the jewelry that Suman had gifted her the day before, the bag also had jewelry that belonged to Rishita and Dhara along with a lot of cash from their safe. Suman was furious and started yelling at Disha for disrespecting her and breaking her trust. She kind of admitted her own mistake, too, but that was all the family was going to get from her for putting everyone through this avoidable chaos. The police arrested Disha and her crew, thanked Shiva, and left.

Gaumbi walked to Raavi and proudly asked, "Issiliye tu bhaagi bhaagi yaha chali aayi?"

Everyone was looking at Raavi as she nodded yes and explained that she saw Disha's pictures in the news a few minutes ago and wanted to warn Shiva and the family about it before anything bad happened. Dhara went to her and hugged her.

She kissed her forehead and said, "Itana kuch ho jaane ke baad bhi tu hamaare liye bhaagi chali aayi?"

Raavi looked at Shiva who was looking at her affectionately and replied, "Abhi toh bohot kuch hona baaki hai Dhara Di!" and with that she angrily walked to Shiva and started hitting him making him run. She ran behind him determined to kill him for hurting her so much.

"Bhaag kaha raha hai? Jaan nikaal di tune meri. Tu ruk.. tujhe toh mein abhi bataati hu! Gadheda!" Raavi said in anger.

Shiva ducked and hid behind anyone and anything that came in the way and tried to explain, "Ae Chipkali, sun toh sahi! Sorry yaar! Ek baar baat toh sun!"

They ran in circles for a few seconds but then Shiva stopped running and scolded Raavi, "Bas! Ruk! Kabse bol raha hu sun meri baat tujhe samjh mein nahi aata?"

"Nahi aata! Teri koi baat nahi sun ni mujhe. Nahi samjhna kuch bhi!" Raavi said hurt and exhausted and sat down in a chair nearby and started crying.

Dhara started walking towards Raavi but Suman held her hand and signaled her to let Shiva and Raavi figure things out on their own. Dhara looked at Suman skeptically for the sudden change of heart but decided to obey for her kids' sake.

Shiva went down on his knees in front of her and tucked a finger under Raavi's chin and made her look up. Her hair were messed up a bit so he tucked them away behind her ears and gently wiped her tears.

"Bohot pareshaan kiya na maine tujhe?" Shiva asked so lovingly that it brought fresh tears in Raavi's eyes. She looked at him and innocently nodded yes.

Shiva's heart flooded with love for her as he held his ears and said, "Sorry! Mujhe pata hai ke maine tujhe bohot rulaaya hai. Tu sahi thi meri insecurities ke baare mein. Mujhe lagta tha ke mere saath teri life barbaad ho gai thi aur tu mere saath khush nahi thi. Mein nahi chahta tha ke tu taras khaake mere saath rahe. Mein bas tujhe zabardasti ke iss rishte se azaad karna chahta tha."

Raavi choked hearing him say this out loud as she took his hands in hers and Shiva continued, "Par fir tu wapis aa gai aur mera mann fir se teri taraf khicha chala aaya! Mein tujhse alag nahi hona chahta Raavi lekin mujhe yeh nahi pata tha ki tu mere saath apni zindagi guzaarna chahti bhi hai ya nahi! Aur fir woh ladki aai aur tujhe farq padne laga!"

"Jab tujhe pata tha ki mujhe bura lag raha hai tujhe uss chorni ke saath dekh ke toh fir yeh shaadi tak ka drama karne ki kya zaroorat thi? Mujhe bata nahi sakta tha apne plan ke baare mein?" Raavi asked disheartened and as if she just remembered something she added, "Aur kya matlab ke humaara divorce nahi hua?"

Shiva smiled and said, "Maine talaaq ki arzi bohot din pehle hi wapis le li thi." surprising Raavi.

"Nahi par Shukla ji ne toh phone karke bataaya tha ke divorce ki process khatam ho gayi!" Raavi asked.

Shiva replied, "Kyun ki maine un se kaha tha ke tujhe abhi kuch na bataaye."

"Par kyun? Tune Disha ke baare mein bhi kuch nahi bataaya aur mujhse jhagada karke mujhe yaha se jaane diya!" Raavi asked angrily.

"Kyun ki tere pet mein koi baat nahi tikti! Tu waise hi bhadki hui thi aur upar se tujhe batata ke hum divorce nahi le rahe aur Disha chor hai, toh tere pet mein dard hone lagta aur phir tu kisi na kisi ke aage jaake sab ugal deti!" Shiva said pinching her cheek and Raavi hit him.

Gautam interjected and asked, "Par tune hume kyun kuch nahi bataaya Shiva? Kam se kam mujhe aur Dev ko toh bata deta?"

"Kyun ki Gaumbi police ne bataaya tha ke yeh log zaroorat padne pe maar-peet pe bhi utar aate hai aur kuch logo ko toh inhone jaan se maarne ki bhi koshish ki thi. Gaumbi agar mein aap mein se kisi ko bhi batata aur un logo ko zara si bhi bhanak padd jaati toh ya toh yeh log bhaag jaate ya kisi ko kuch kar dete." Shiva replied.

Shiva looked back at Raavi and took out her Mangalsutra from his pocket. She looked at it and then at him as he put it around her neck and said, "Aaj ke baad kabhi mat kehna ke tera mera koi rishta nahi hai. Warna kamre mein bandh kar dunga aur chipakali bhi khuli chod dunga! Gadhedi!"

He kissed her hand and said, "Sorry Raavi! Please mujhe maaf kar de!"

Raavi looked at her bhootnaath and her heart flooded with love for him. She cupped his face and said, "Itani asaani se nahi milegi maafi! Pehle murga bann!"

The whole family chuckled as he obeyed Raavi and became a murga. When his balance gave away, Raavi supported him and kneeled in front of him and said, "I am sorry, too! Tu bhi mujhe maaf karde Shiva. Mein bhi tujhe samajh nahi paayi! I am really sorry!" Shiva kissed her forehead and hugged her bringing her and himself home.

The family clapped and Krish and Dev whistled as Raavi and Shiva's world finally completed!
