Male characters that made my heart BLEED.
Meet Aman Mathur from Kal Ho Na Ho
I call him my fictional husband (right before Mr Darcy). He ticks all my boxes for my ideal hero. Aman was funny with a great sense of humour (definite must), he was cute and had dimples (utter weakness), he was kind and generous (absolute must) and most importantly, he was selfless. Literally the epitome of a guardian angel. Aman had already won me over when he dedicated his time and effort to help Naina and her family, whether it was financially (restoring the family business) or to re-establish Jenny's self-esteem. He gave love and attention to both Jiya and Naina's younger brother and pretty much stole everyone's heart because of his warmth and giving attitude.
Though I wish he didn't play God and compelled Naina to be with Rohit, it's the intentions and heart behind his actions that matter. Aman knew how much Naina grieved over her father's death. She had not only forgotten how to smile but was lonely, aloof and pessimistic about everything. Aman helped Naina shed her reservations, taught her to smile and gave her reason to embrace happiness again. He knew that his death would destroy her so he broke his own heart and set her up with her best friend and ensured that she had someone who would love and support her when he's gone (I'm choking up). Where do I find someone like him? I was more traumatised over his death than Naina was. Because of him, she found a companion to spend the rest of her life, while he became an unforgotten memory of being her first true love. 🥺
I still get super depressed when I watch the Kal Ho Na Ho title track, especially when Aman starts imagining himself as Rohit and starts to envision what life beside Naina would have been like (Starting at 2:16). After writing this post, I am convinced that Karan Johar is a sadistic psycho for making such a sad movie. WHO HURT HIM?
