i have a theory that the trp keeps fluctuating between 2.6-2.9 the reason being a) the 'hardcore' jasfa team ka hope jo lets be honest pura nahi hone wala. fatejo saath ho ya na ho, jasfa wont be making it- they come back to tv with hopes once in a while and it gives a lift. but its clear that they are in no way the majority viewer. mostly watch online clips and stay happy anyways. b) the casual watchers- they watch on and off depending on what drama they find digestable. so they probs add a point or two urban wise. c) festival season mein 2.6 from last week to this is in real terms an increase cos usually ppl dont watch dailies during this time. it'd probs be higher otherwise.
now for why the trp has basically stabilized at 2.6<, its the slot leader, the number one daily show on the channel. and the maker's return on investment (with new young actors, chandigarh sets that are cheap and one segmented set) is very high. ppl have also connected to characters in their own space- tejo fans (trp aunties make the bulk), fatejo (young people who like chemistry), ChamFa (they cant help their curiosity) and in general watching evil girl get chamat fans (me et al). so unless they make it boring- as in everything becomes logical and just- the ratings aren't going down.
and in all honesty there seems to be a misconception that 'feminist' shows do well...lets look at the top:
Anupama- the story of an abused cat that sometimes meows back before going back to being an abused cat. it has gained 'independence' but has developed stockholm syndrome so the willingly living with husband and mistress then wife. tejo is literally no different. at least fateh shows her time to time respect when vanraj used to yell at anupama for smelling like masala (hilarious). and anupama ratings have been high (2.8-3.2) for long even before the new man entry, he doesnt matter. what matters is that when anupama is helpless aunties see their own helplessness in her and when she meows back, the aunties can fantasize.
ghum hain kisi k pyaar mein- in this show everyone lusts after their bhabi or have some high level creep relationship with them, so if thats feminist then sure. and now virat is lusting after his teenage wife- any 'empowerment' they try to show for sai by making her 'muphat' is literally nothing to offset the chaotically large imbalance that comes from a 17-18 year old marrying someone atleast 10 years older than her- the economic imbalance is only adding to the chaos. (same as chameli and fateh but he acts 5 as well and has no chillar in his pocket so thats an equiliser i suppose) this is not just 'showing what happens' but also normalizing the most regressive elements of our society.
imlie- i won't even bother. if imlie is progressive in any angle then im illiterate and don't understand what that word means. its the most disgusting show that I cant even fathom understanding the appeal behind. common theme- pit sister against sister for a older toxic man.
yeh hain chahatein- you can say a lot about it, feminism is not one of them. it would be feminist if the kid was actually hers from another marriage or lover. this show in its premise is a cop out.
so ya- in my opinion. most top shows are NOT feminist or even female positive. we're still in the K era. we just think we've evolved. but the hard facts point 100% otherwise.
Lol I don't watch itv at all... And it's a good reason why. But holy f hell. Tbh I don't think anyone would say itv shows are feminist... Udaariyan supposedly has a strong lead, two FL but let's be real, there's no empowerment of anyone. Tejo has literally accepted doormat treatment, and needed fatehs voice to even continue her job. Chameli has no ambition in her life except competing with tejo in matters she can't.
