Short story short : I think Arnav was being pulled apart by both his hope to believe in Khushi's innocence and hating himself for loving her nevertheless.

He was scared by the fact that he (would have) loved her even if she had had an affair with Snakewa.

Interesting question.

They both realised they mean something to each other before the terrace incident shattered both of them. More so to Arnav than Khushi.

At that stage, I don't think they were in a position to think it was love which can lead to marriage.

Like we all know the terrace fiasco changed everything. That and the following incidents created lot of confusion and they both made decisions which they would never have made otherwise.

Married to each other through the contract marriage did not really bother them. Arnav had to keep reminding himself that this is just a contract marriage and he will throw her out in 6 months.

For Khushi, all she wanted to know was why he forced her into contract marriage.

Unknowingly they trusted each other.

I think, when he was kidnapped with the fresh knowledge of Khushi's side of the story (though he did not believe at that time), Arnav thought enough is enough and he decided to accept the marriage with Khushi.

Khushi either wanted to know the reason of the contract marriage or wanted verbal confirmation from him, so, his declaration was enough for her to accept the contract marriage as real. That is why when he accused her again when Anjali tried to abort the baby, she asked him "do you still think this is a contract marriage?", because she already accepted the marriage.

I didn't put much thought into that dialogue of his.. when he told anjali that he fell in love after marriage..

He was partly right..he didn't marry her for love..he married her for some other reason.. but probably he realized what she means to him only after the contract marriage..I call.it marriage but never mind..

He loves her, he realized when he was running behind the ambulance..but after contract marriage it was different ..different in a way that he believed that she had something with shyam, yet he couldn't stop.loving her..couldn't hate her like asr..means , he loved her inspite of that ugly truth which he believed in..which was a true test of love..

We know , before he was kidnapped ,he wasn't convinced of khushis innocence..he still said I love you to her on the phone..all the sach and jhoot didn't matter , confessing to her was the only thing on his mind..
