The detrimental effects of drugs shouldn’t be brushed off as mere recreational fun. It starts off with occasional social use, slowly turning into regular use, then eventually becoming an addiction. Watching a healthy individual succumb to drugs is so incredibly painful for family members.
A relative of mine lost his mind after excessive drug use. He suffered from drug-induced psychosis and started seeing angels floating in the room. He would tell us to quiet down because the angels have come into the room and is listening to our conversation. His mother was out of her mind with grief. He lost his friends and people started avoiding him.
Someone who has psychological vulnerabilities will react even worse due to drugs. My closest family member had experienced war trauma and witnessed his siblings death. Despite being sponsored to Aus, the trauma never left him, so he began to rely on substances to help cope. No one in the family was aware of this. He eventually got addicted and lost his job, license and close friends. He even went to jail for a year after getting into a fight with the police. After serving his time, he came out and was not normal. The drugs had changed him. Not a few months later, he told his mother that he wished they had a big family, and that he wished things were different. A day later, he hung himself in the garage and was found by his father. The childhood trauma was a catalyst that made him vulnerable but the drugs completely ruined his life.
This shit is real. If they do the crime, then they should do the time but it’s so essential that they receive rehabilitation.
