Domestic abuse, also called "domestic violence" or "intimate partner violence", can be defined as a pattern of behavior in any relationship that is used to gain or maintain power and control over an intimate partner. Abuse is physical, sexual, emotional, economic or psychological actions or threats of actions that influence another person. This includes any behaviors that frighten, intimidate, terrorize, manipulate, hurt, humiliate, blame, injure, or wound someone. Domestic abuse can happen to anyone of any race, age, sexual orientation, religion, or gender. It can occur within a range of relationships including couples who are married, living together or dating. Domestic violence affects people of all socioeconomic backgrounds and education levels"

What happens at Chavan Nivas is domestic violence. The conditions which Sai is subjected to by her in laws and husband is called domestic violence. Samrat addressing it as it was hopeful though there isnt going to be any resolution. The pattern right from Pulkit lunch track is a cycle of abuse. I often see domestic violence trivialized as regular couple fights on this forum. Some go on to extent of equating Sai and Virats mistakes when one of them is clearly doing a crime. The reasoning is non existent. The ship ceased existing the very first day he committed domestic violence.

Evidence

  • Embarrass or make fun of you in front of your friends or family?- Ajinkya incident, cafe incident
  • Make you feel like you are unable to make decisions?- constantly age shaming her, assuming her responsibility as a guardian at his convenience
  • Use intimidation or threats to gain compliance?- locking her up, manhandling, threat on self harm
  • Tell you that you are nothing without them?- Too many dialouges in 300 episodes that implied the same
  • Treat you roughly—grab, push, pinch, shove or hit you?- Virat is a pro at manhandling
  • Blame you for how they feel or act?- Blamed her for locking up drama
  • Prevent you from doing things you want – like spending time with friends or family?- placing restrictions on her movement- PD drama and recent pooja one
  • Try to keep you from leaving after a fight or leave you somewhere after a fight to “teach you a lesson”?- I dont think I need to give egs

A few of other indicators

  • Sometimes feel scared of how your partner may behave?- Sai fearing for being seen with Ajinkya in her room
  • Constantly make excuses to other people for your partner’s behaviour? Sai giving excuses for Virats behavior to her friends
  • Believe that you can help your partner change if only you changed something about yourself?- Sai trying to mould herself into Chavan Nivas and Virats ideals. Her bring constanly compared with Pakhi by them
  • Try not to do anything that would cause conflict or make your partner angry?- Innumerable examples
  • Stay with your partner because you are afraid of what your partner would do if you broke up?- Virat threatening to commit suicide when she was leaving

Not gonna mention other members crimes towards Sai- they all practice domestic violence.

Very important question- Why is domestic violence inflicted on a teenager romanticized as complex writing and shit

Show recognized it as domestic violence though there's no resolution to the problem. The forum romanticizing it is mysterious

There's no doubt that what sai is dealing with in that family is in fact domestic abuse. You list all the things chavan's and virat's have said and done to sai and look them and you will find they are all behaviours that come under domestic abuse. But people are hesitant to call it abuse because:

1. The girl being subjected to the abuse is not someone who takes any of the things said or done to her quietly and knows how to respond to defend herself.

2. Sai questions virat's relationship with pakhi (although virat himself is the reason those seeds of doubt in her and insecurity)

3. Sai is at times annoyingly repetitious and sometimes fails to avoid conflict where she can (but that won't make a difference majority of the times as her abusive in-laws attack her even when she's quiet and not saying anything and her husband with selective hearing grows antennas only when she opens her mouth to say something)

4. Because the abusive husband cries more than his abused wife does.

Well articulated

It will be called out by majority when they find someone new to ship her with, these things will cease to exist the moment everyone gets a good Sairat episode. Sairat shouldn’t have been a thing after he threw her out but everyone jumps to the ship because let’s face it, people want entertainment and romance is a form of it.

Because this is ITV and neither the makers nor the target audience is mature enough to be open to such tracks. Hindi serials thrive on romance, angst, MUs and shipping the lead couple. All the mistakes done by the ML would be forgotten because heck, he's the ML and he will cry bucket loads to seek forgiveness. The only exception in recent times to this was a show on Rangeela channel where the wife divorces the husband.

Interesting part is a show like Crime Patrol which might show the same domestic violence will be taken as is by the audiences because that's a crime reality show. Fiction shows mein toh the situation is like pran jaaye par ship na jaaye.

Unfortunately you are right. I am sure everyone will go back to shipping seeing lollipop scenes. Entertainment is fine. I am perplexed only with the hesitation to accept this as domestic abuse. Show clearly called it domestic violence. Sairat ended the day he said he will lock her if he disobeys her command to return back to the room during Pulkit lunch drama.

I was surprised to hear a dialogue which called this as domestic violence. I see it being trivialized everyday as nok jhoks in the forum. That's where I am coming from. Are we normalized and conditioned to such an extent that this repeated cycle of abuse is romanticized?

I think major trp requirements come under dram category... It's not really to teach you or moral policing as such..... The show are made with entertainment agenda an do not really get into details of teaching the society or anything.... Jo jba tak chalega, tab tak chalayenge.... That is the basic attitude for most shows an sequence....

Also, when specific ppl are introduced as lead pair ... They are to ultimately end up togather.... So, they will do Inspite of anything and everything that has happened between them.... No other emotion or feelings have any importance in front of "love" of the lead pair!!!

That is ITV.... Ja chahe topic dekh lo..... Here domestic violence is under the pretext of general behaviour of the character!!!
