Zee could use some of Sony's strengths (less drama, no OTT antics, crisper stories) and Sony could use a bit of Zee's strengths (giving serials a relatively longer rope- I think the first Bhagya one has been going on for seven years now! 😆)
Mergers are generally all about synergy- hopefully these two help each other in a positive way!
I thought something like this was on the cards when Zee's share price started to go up around 10 days ago- was 180 types in the first week of September, is 300 today! 😲
In the larger interest of consolidation, it will be interesting to see if Zee gets rebranded to "Sony Zee" or something.
Sports is now already just a two way battle between Star and Sony (there were once plenty of channels in the sector), wonder if general shows will go that way too- it's now essentially just Sony, Star and Colors. And we had rumours of a Sony-Colors merger last year which didn't materialise.
