Oh man, I know exactly what you're saying.
So I do get super, super attached to western shows, haven't ventured into the K drama world yet. Many even more than even ITV, I can probably count on one hand ITV shows I've had a true emotional connect to, not just while watching but in retrospect too. And also, let's be real, better writing gives me more to dig into.
But I still can't get away from these ITV comfort shows. I think it's the sense of apnapan for me that keeps me too attached, despite the let downs. People who look like me, speak my language, live in my culture. The inherent desiness of it all, despite the theatrics.
