No. of Family Members: 3

No. of Rooms: 3 BHK

How Many Categories of Work (i.e., sweeping, mopping, washing clothes, doing dishes, dusting, grocery shopping): Sweeping and doing dishes daily, and mopping on alternate days

Her/Their Salary: INR 3,000

It takes her roughly 20 to 30 minutes to do the job. Any overtime, or additional tasks, she is paid extra on a per diem basis. She also gets Sundays and festivals off and additional days off for personal leave or sick leave on a need-basis.

We have had the same person working for us for many years now. She thinks we pay her well.

Do You Think You Are Fair?

No and Yes.

Effort wise she should be paid more (but i dont negotiate the salary in the house), and she deserves atleast one day off per week. Work wise, she is not that great though - cooking skills are mediocre

Does Your Maid Think You're Fair? Probably not

Yes. I was of the impression that the salary of maid in metropolitan cities like Delhi and Mumbai is above 15000.

In Kochi the average salary is 10000 that too in 2 to 3 bhk flats , the chores will be house and washroom cleaning mainly, and cloth washing and rarely kitchen chores.

Average family size is 4 members.

My family is in small town and we pay 500 Rs per day for the house help . Her duties are limited to cloth washing and sweeping courtyard.

I understand but the truth is in cities like Kochi ,it not is easy to find efficient house help , so demand is high. I have met one house help and she works for three different families and spend 2 hour in each flat and earns around 20000 per month.

The salary of house help at my sister's home which is in outskirts of Kerala is 10000 . Her responsibilities is limited to lunch preparation, washing the dishes ( just the utensils used for lunch preparation ), washing the clothes of baby ,she use washing machine to wash other clothes, basic dusting and sweeping the courtyard. She works for 6 day a week from 11.00 am to 4.00 pm and Sundays and main festive days are nonworking days. For deep cleaning they seek the help of another maid in weekends.

I haven’t kept a maid anymore but she used to finish her work just in 20 mins and leave 😅

It usually depends on the size of the house, for 2BHKs, it's 2500...for every additional bedroom 500 gets added.

I mean the salary should be all similar in some major cities.

Plus it's a contract between individuals, and it should be an agreement.
