I have dated someone shorter than I. It was awkward in a way, and I realised I end up being more assertive around people who are shorter. Which could come off as condescending. We got along well. I wasn't 'tolerating' him or anything because I couldn't find a taller person. I really liked him and respected him . He was a wonderful person.
But...
I live in a city/town where dating was not okay back then;people gossipped and stared and so on so the whole thing was unofficial. And kinda ironed out in public. Not a secret, but not open either. I let people assume he was my friend or colleague. In the case of a shorter guy ,before I say "Oh I was fine with it" I have to ask myself if I'd have felt the same way about him in a situation where I had to introduce him to others as my partner etc. Whether I'd feel the same way in a situation where I had nothing to lose. I may have been fine with it because I subconsciously thought his height would keep people from assuming we were a pair ?
Then there was this incident with a guy ( who happened to be short) my friend brought along , who hit on me. I ignored it because I was not in the mood for that kind of attention. He got pissed and started being snarky. Started making remarks abt my job , my vegetarianism ,my hair. When he said " I have a cool job ..it would be your loss if you didn't go out with me hehe " I snapped " Well you're still the short guy with the fancy job ". I defend that on the grounds that he was asking for it by being rude to me. But maybe that wasn't just a retort? I'd hate to find out that it was an actual opinion tht I had about short guys because that would make me a hypocrite after all that I've said against all kinds of - isms.
