Very interesting, please do continue!!
Yay!!
You started another piece. I'm glad🤗
The fact that you're starting from where Raghav is basically just starting to set thing sup for Jayati Jewels & is soon gonna buy the RR Mansion makes for an interesting read.
I'm already thinking what the future meets gonna be like for Pallavi & Raghav. Are you gonna jump straight into the future - where the next meet is like that in the series OR we're gonna get slow glimpses of Raghav creating his empire & Pallavi's life as a widow.
This different take/AU - I await to see how take it forward
And Thanks for the Tag❤️
the beginning was quite intriguong
I am looking forward towards reading this
I’m loving this AU, Raghav and Pallavi and how they have just met and sparks are flying! Totally engrossing. Pls continue soon 😊
Such an amazing start of the story!
Please continue
This is beautiful. Please continue
A/N: Thank you all very much for your feedback and encouragement. I hope to be able to respond soon.
This next part picks up two and a half years after the first, bringing us to the beginning of the show. A lot is very much the same - some things needed to change. Hope you enjoy reading.
Part 2
Pallavi parked her scooter and unloaded her bags, thankful for the relief from the heat now that she was finally home. She entered Deshmukh Niwas and glanced at the clock on the wall.
“Amrutha,” she called out to her younger cousin. “Can you help me put away these vegetables? I need to get back to the store soon.”
“Sure, Di,” came her absent-minded reply as she remained glued to her seat at the table, still reading.
“Amrutha! Bring the newspaper with you, I need to wrap these papayas.”
“But look, it’s an article about Raghav Rao – he’s donating a new wing to a local school. And they have his picture,” she said dreamily.
Pallavi paused in the middle of her work. Raghav Rao. In her mind’s eye she could see the smirk on his face as he teased her, snippets of memories from a previous life. She shook her head. It was unfair that she happened to move to a city where he maintained such a notorious reputation. She doubted that he ever gave her a second thought.
“God, he’s so hot,” sighed Amrutha as she finally entered the kitchen.
Pallavi rolled her eyes and took the newspaper. “Looks aren’t everything, you know. And I thought you follow him on social media?”
Amrutha ignored her sage advice. “He never updates,” she said. “Or if he does it’s with pictures of his jewelry designs. I read he named his store after his mother – isn’t that sweet?”
“So sweet,” Pallavi said sarcastically, before checking the time. “Oh no, I have to go – Krishna’s probably waiting for me.”
“As if anything ever happens at Deshmukh Saree Emporium,” muttered Amrutha.
____________
Pallavi arrived at the shop and was surprised to find her assistant nearly in tears.
“Krishna? What happened? Are you ok?”
Krishna sniffed and took a few big gulps from the glass of water Pallavi offered. “There were some men here looking for you.”
“For me? Who?”
“I don’t know, gunde types – they threatened to trash the shop, said this was their last warning.”
Pallavi furrowed her eyebrows. “What? There must be some kind of misunderstanding.”
“Didi, what if it’s that man you yelled at, the one who was following Keerthi?”
She felt the anger inside her start to rise. “If that’s the case, he clearly hasn’t learned his lesson.” Pallavi put a comforting hand on Krishna’s shoulder. “Don’t worry, I know how to deal with those kinds of people. Why don’t you go home? I’ll close – I have to pick up that shipment of new sarees tonight anyway.”
“I’m not leaving you here alone,” she protested.
“They won’t come back today,” Pallavi reassured her. “I’ll be out in a few hours.”
It was six hours later that Pallavi found herself locking up. Updating the books had taken her longer than anticipated. Try as she might to move funds around, their bottom line was in the red and no amount of massaging the numbers would change that very stark fact. She needed to get to the warehouse as soon as possible if she was going to get her delivery today – the sooner she could sell these premium sarees, the sooner she could start to claw her way out of debt.
The night sky was filled with foreboding clouds. She clipped on her helmet and said a quick prayer.
____________
Raghav swayed in the jeep and took another swig from his bottle, the burning liquid finally quieting the voices in his head. He closed his eyes and felt the wind rush past him. He could almost forget, at least for a few hours…
Keerthi’s face appeared in his mind, her disgust with him clearly evident. She wanted nothing to do with him, she had said. He was nobody to her…
He opened his eyes to banish the image. Anjali danced next to him, her hips swinging to some tune only she could hear. Not bad, he thought, admiring her form. It almost made him regret the lesson he planned to teach her.
No matter – there would be plenty of other girls to take her place. He brought the bottle up to his lips again. He was Raghav Rao. Raghav Rao.
He felt them slowing down, and looked over at Farhad and Harish in the front seat. “Why aren’t we going faster?”
Farhad looked back over his shoulder. “There’s someone in front of us, a scooter with too many packages.”
Raghav looked up and saw the idiot driving smack dab in the middle of the road. “Hey!” he shouted, and reached over Harish to honk the horn. “Move!”
“Anna!” Harish grabbed onto the steering wheel tightly but Raghav ignored him and continued to press the horn incessantly. In the ensuing chaos they clipped the back of the scooter, sending it off the side of the road.
“Oh no,” cried Harish as he stopped the car and jumped out. Raghav stood for a moment, stupefied, before he too climbed out and walked over to survey the damage.
“Are you ok, miss – ” Harish stopped and stared. “You?”
The woman stopped checking herself for injuries as she brushed the dirt off her saree. “You again?” she shouted. “It wasn’t enough that you sent your goons to my shop today, now you’re trying to run me off the road?”
“What goons?” asked Raghav as he reached Harish. “What is she talking about?”
“This is the woman I was telling you about, Anna. When I was following Keerthi. The owner of the Deshmukh Saree shop.”
Her? He strode closer, feet unsteady, ready to give this woman a piece of his mind. Thunder rumbled overhead.
How dare she, he thought. Didn’t she know who she was dealing with? Well she would now, she would regret the day she crossed his path –
He stopped. “Saree Ka Dukaan?”
She stared at him, mouth agape. “Raghav?”
At that moment, the clouds above them opened up and released a sudden downpour.
Pallavi sprang into action, frantically trying to gather her boxes before they were ruined in the rain. He knelt down to help, their eyes meeting again as he handed her the packages.
“Let me give you a ride,” he found himself saying.
She picked her scooter up off the ground, struggling with the kickstand in the mud. “No thanks.”
Annoyance flared within him. “Don’t be an idiot. How are you going to get home like this?”
“I’ll manage.” She glared at him, the effect diminished by the fact that she looked like a drowned rat.
He ran a hand through his hair in frustration. Why was she being so difficult? “Look, I’m sorry about your things.”
She whirled back towards him, finger in his face. “But I bet you’re not sorry for making my assistant cry. Or for harassing an innocent girl even though she wants nothing to do with you.”
He clenched his jaw. “Leave Keerthi out of this.”
“She’s my friend. You know, I thought at the very least you knew how to take no for an answer.”
He stared at her as if she had slapped him.
“Still so quick to judge,” he ground out. “My relationship with Keerthi is none of your business. Leave it alone, or I’m warning you –”
“Or what?” she countered, fire in her eyes. They stood facing each other and he watched, hypnotized, as her chest heaved with exertion. Her saree was plastered to her skin, each curve a temptation for his eyes to explore. There was something missing, he thought in his alcohol-addled brain.
“I think your girlfriend is looking for you,” she said with disgust. He turned to see Anjali stumble out of the car in her heels as Farhad and Harish finished pulling the cover on. He heard an engine rev, but by the time he turned back around he could only watch as Pallavi drove off into the night.
“Damn it,” he muttered.
