8 years without each other wasn't a mere thing for them. It felt like they were living but their heart has stopped beating. The pain of separation, the pain of silence, the pain of heartbreak, they both were undergoing all.
But only for each other they were still living, with a little hope kindled in some corner of their heart.

Anirudh Roy Choudhury, now a reputed barrister of Calcutta in his early 30s, sighed as he caressed the photo of his little Bondita in his wallet as a tear drop fell from his eyes. He missed her like anything but he was helpless, he can't meet her. Because thats what her Thakumaa wanted at the cost of her freedom. And leaving everything he left her, leaving for her only a piece of letter. His world stopped after she was gone but somewhere deep down in his heart he knew she will come back to him. She will definitely.

chaahat ke diye

Barrister Bondita Das, gold medalist from London University now in her early 20s, smiled as she stepped her foot on her motherland after 8 years and tears fell from her eyes, tears of both joy and pain. She was beyond happy because she has fulfilled their dream but she was sad because he wasn't beside her to share this beautiful moment with her. He must be happy in his world she thought as she clutched a piece of paper cutting in her palm. But an unknown pain pierced her heart, and tears fell yet again.

chaahat ke diye
tere liye, tere liye
The story starts when Bondita was staying with her Thakumaa, who had left no stones unturned to separate her from her Sakha babu. Anirudh had tried every measures to take Bondita away to London but seemed like destiny had some other plans for them.
It was a stormy night, thunder and lightening was continuing but paying no heeds to it Anirudh moved towards the back of the mansion where Thakumaa had asked him to meet her and there he was standing with hope when Thakumaa declared, "tum jaisa chahate ho wesa hoga Anirudh Roy Choudhury, mein bhejungi Bondita ko London par ek shart par, abse, balki abhi se, tum naa hi usse miloge naa hi usse baat karoge, agar tum chahte ho Bondita Barrister banne toh tumhe usse saare rishte todne hoge..humesha kliye.. bolo manjoor hai?? " and Anirudh closed his eyes not able to take in so much cruelty, he couldn't believe Thakumaa could stoop so low.
And with a heavy heart still closing his eyes, he tightened his fist and uttered,"manjoor hai.." but then with a rage he looked at Thakumaa and said,"par meri bhi ek shart hai..London se wapas ane k baad agar Bondita mujhse milna chahe toh aap usse nehi rokenge..manjoor hai?? " and Thakumaa said, "manjoor hai" and smirking inwardly said to herself, "par usse pehele mujhe esa kuch karna hoga k woh tumse milna hi na chahe.."
And she left from there leaving Anirudh to cry his heart out, the rains wiped his tears for sure but it was unable to wipe the pain from his heart. This promise was going to cost a heavy price he thought. But the smiling face of Bondita flashed in his mind and he said to himself,"sirf tumhare liye Bondita, tumhare Sakha babu kuch bhi kar sakte hain.."
The next morning Bondita heard the happiest news from her Thakumaa that, she is going to London. She thought, her Sakha babu was successful in convincing Thakumaa but a letter arrived in her name and Thakumaa smirked. Unknown to the sacrifices of her Sakha babu, she just got a letter from him and on reading it, earth slipped beneath her feet.
Pyari Bondita,
Asha karta hun ki tum khus ho, London jo jaogi ab tum, humara sapna pura hoga..hai na?? Khub padhai karna aur jaldi se Barrister babu banke wapas ana. Ab tumhare Thakumaa is faisle se sehmat hai toh ab mein chinta se mukt hun.
Mujhe dhundne ki yaa baat karne ki koshish mat karna. Mein tumhare paas rahu ya na rahun mein humesha tumhare sath hun.
Kush raho aur taraki karo aur kabhi himmat mat harna. Mein nehi hun toh kya hua, tumhare dugga maa tumhare sath hai woh karegi tumhari raksha humesha.

Tears fell from her eyes as she read and reread the letter numerous times not understanding what was happening. But she was helpless to do anything. And she knew she has to go to London without seeing him once, because she doesn't have any other option left and thus with a heavy heart she board the ship.
Years passed, Anirudh became a successful barrister gaining much name and fame and there Bondita succeeded in her studies. But Thakumaa's evil ploy wasn't over yet. It was only a few months to her graduation ceremony and like always she received a letter from her Thakumaa but it killed the little hope she had.
Among all other things, few lines from the letter broke Bondita's heart completely.
....Bondita tu janti hai mein us Anirudh Roy Choudhury se kitni nafrat karti hun phir bhi humesha uske bare mein kyu puchti hai apni patro mein?? Woh tujhe chod k toh ja chukka tha aur ab maan le k woh tujhe dil se bhi nikal chuka hai. Jo ummid tune sajayi hai naa usse bhul ja. Yakin nehi hai toh sabud bheja hai maine, dekhle phir..
And with the letter was a paper cutting, It wasn't a mere paper cutting. But it was a marriage invitation, with a picture of Anirudh in the side, stating, the well known Barrister of Calcutta, Anirudh Roy Choudhury marrying to a well known zamindar's daughter, Manoroma Bose.
Bondita was shocked with the news, she felt lifeless, too numb to say anything. She felt like all her dreams were shattered. She felt betrayed, heartbroken but still gathering her courage, not wanting to disrespect their sacrifices, she studied to complete his dream, their dream.
And now back from London completing her study, she has to go to Calcutta to practice her internship under few well known Barristers and thus she reached there with one of her close friend from London, Trina Bagchi, a bubbly and lively girl.
They were standing their waiting for their head when Trina whispered in Bondita's ear,"tujhe pata hai humare head koun hai??" and Bondita denied.
And Trina whispered in her ear again, "par maine pata kiya hai..suna hai bahut bade Barrister hai..31 ki hai phir bhi hot and handsome aur pata hai kya he is a bachelor, suna hai kisi khaas ladki ki talash mein hai.." and Bondita hit her forehead giving unbelievable look to Trina and she smiled sheepishly shrugging her shoulder.
Then Bondita asked her curiously,"itna sab janti hai toh naam bhi bata de.." and Trina said smiling dreamily," Barrister Anirudh Roy Choudhury "and Bondita's heart skipped a beat, hearing the name. Her body went numb, this can't be true right.
Then she recalled Tina's words aur pata hai kya he is a bachelor, suna hai kisi khaas ladki ki talash mein hai.. and thus to confirm she asked Trina,"par tune toh kaha bachelor hai par I think unki shaadi ho chuki hai" and Trina looked at her not understanding what she was blabbering and said,"tu pagal hai kya Anirudh Roy Choudhury ko na pure Calcutta mein sab pehchante hain aur ye information mujhe dada se mili hai woh galat nehi batayenge mujhe..to ye baat pakki hai woh bachelor hai" and winking at her she said,"tu chahe toh apna luck try kar sakti hai"
But Bondita was stunned with the revelation to understand any joke of her and excusing herself she got to one side, bringing the paper cutting out of her bag. How can this be possible she wondered as she said to herself, "esa kaise ho sakta hai?? yahan pe toh saaf saaf likha hai unki shaadi hone wali thi Manorama didi se.." but looking closely at the paper she found no date mentioned in it, there wasn't any information or details of the wedding and also no picture of Manorama.
She couldn't believe it and thought is it a trap??
She recalled the past, how Anirudh left her, how Thakumaa agreed to send her to London, and then she herself sending the paper cutting. And she finally understood it wasn't any coincidence but a trap laid by her Thakumaa and she clutched the paper as tears fell from her eyes. She knew she was betrayed but not by her Sakha babu but by her Thakumaa. And surrounded by the pain she had failed to notice all this, misunderstanding her Sakha babu.
But breaking everyone's thoughts came a voice, "Attention interns, here is your new head Barrister Anirudh Roy Choudhury" and Bondita turned looking at him, her heart thundering in her ribcage as she stared at him without blinking her eyes. She was seeing him after 8 long years and he still looked the same. Bondita smiled as she controlled herself not to run to him.
Introducing everyone the assistant then introduced the girls,"Sir aur ye do girls from London University, Barrister Trina Bagchi aur Barrister Bondita Das"
And Anirudh widened his eyes as his gaze fell on the girl standing, looking at him with tears in her eyes. Many emotions were going within him as he found his Bondita. The girl for whom he was waiting madly from 8 years. And finally God listened to him. He gazed at Bondita from head to toe smiling how beautiful she has grown and paying no heeds to the surrounding he moved towards her.
The paper that Bondita was clutching slipped from her hand and reached near his foot and he bend to pick it up but his eyes widened on seeing the content. He couldn't belive how something fake like this was written and that too it seemed like a paper cutting. And he looked at Bondita.
Thinking she would misunderstand him, he nodded his head in a no moving close to her as their past was flying in from of them. They both were recalling all their moments together gazing each other with tear filled eyes.
Their happy memories, the hugs they used to share, their laughing together, making each other understand things, supporting each other, Anirudh fighting for her, they sharing rasogollas, the conversations they used to have in the study, their coconut shell talks, the night spent in Thakumaa's terrace, their handholds everything was flashing infront of them.
zindagi le ke aayi hai,
beete dinon ki kitaab
ghere hain ab humein
yaadein behisaab
Bondita already knew seeing his expression that the paper was fake and her heart was at peace finally and she recalled her days spent with him. How he would always fulfil all her dreams, how he protected her always, how he became her Rakshak babu, her Sikhshak babu and then her Sakha babu. And then she recalled their promises to each other and all those unfulfilled wishes.
bin poochhe mile mujhe,
kitne saare jawaab
chaaha tha kya, paaya hai kya,
humne dekhiye
They were now standing close to each other and Anirudh forwarded his hand to touch her face and she smiled at him as happy tears fell from her eyes. And Anirudh wiped them, with his eyes becoming moist too.

Bondita recalled how she was away from him, the breaking of their marriage, her stay with Thakumaa, their struggle to reach each other, his last letter, her days in London and her missing him there, then the paper cutting that broke her, she cried remembering how she misunderstood him.
kya kahoon, duniyaa ne kiya,
mujh se kaisa bair
hukum tha, main jiyoon,
lekin tere bagair
And crying hard Bondita jumped in his arms hugging him tightly circling her hands around his neck, and Anirudh clutched the table to steady himself and her as he encircled his hands around her back, smiling as he finally felt at peace.
Nadaan hain wo,
kehte hain jo,
mere liye tum ho gair
He broke the hug, wiping her tears as he kissed her forehead and Bondita hugged him again, listening his heartbeats and he tightened the hold.
The people around looking at them in shock. But they didn't cared about anyone. Life has taken many test and now they can't wait to be in each other's arms to wash away the pain of all these years.

After what felt like an eternity, they broke the hug looking around and blushed seeing everyone gawking at them wide eyed.
The interns, assistant and some of his acquaintances present there, everyone stood shocked with the scenario that happened in front of their eyes.
And dragging everyone's attention, his assistant spoke,"sir kya ye wahi Bondita Mam hai jinke bare mein aap batein karte hain??" and Anirudh nodded his head while Bondita stared at him with gratitude and nudging her from behind Trina almost shouted, "Bondita don't tell me ke Anirudh Sir tumhare Sakha babu hai.." and chuckling a little Bondita said, "unfortunately yes.."
It was evening and Bondita's first day at work was blissful, with her Sakha babu beside her she was away from all worries, she didn't face any problem or actually the problem didn't felt like one.
Together they sat on his car as finally they got some privacy to talk freely.
Bondita looking down with glassy eyes spoke,"esa kaise kar sakti hun mein Sakha babu, maine apko kaise galat samjh liya?? Jis insaan ne mere liye itna sab saha.. mein unhe mujhe chod k jane ka dosh de rahi thi..walki sach toh kuch aur hi tha" and holding her face in her palm, she let her tears flow.
But Anirudh moved her hands away holding them in his as he replied,"galti tumhari nehi hai Bondita, akhir mere paas toh ek ummid thi, tumhare loutne ki.. paar tumhari toh woh bhi kho chuki thi..mujhse jyada dard toh tumne saha hai Bondita.."
She looked at him, the person who always protected her, no matter what. And thus wiping her tears she looked at him determined and spoke,"ab galti ko sudharne ka wakt agaya hai Sakha babu, hai naa?? " and he too nodded his head pressing her palm giving her a assuring smile as they drove towards, Krishnanagar.
The dusk had already fallen, the evening breeze felt soothing as it indicated a change, a change for good to be precise.
Thakumaa was sitting on her verendah with two women massaging her feet as she was talking to someone, with Rimjhim Kaki, Sumati maa and Tupur standing beside her, Tapur was already married and now actually she was talking to someone to find a groom for Bondita. But everyone gasped as they saw Bondita coming hand in hand with a man. And as they both moved more closer and their face was clear on the light they were shocked to see Bondita standing with Anirudh.
And being shocked the man commented,"arre aap bhi Thakumaa, lagta hai apki poti toh khud apne liye pati dhund chuki hai aap khamokha apna samay barbaad kar rahi hai..ladkiyon ko padhne bilayat bhejenge toh yehi dekhna baki rehe jayega naa.."
And glaring him Thakumaa asked him to leave as she got up from the chair staring at Bondita, Anirudh and their handhold angrily.
Then looking at Bondita she shouted,"ye admi yahan kya kar raha hai Bondita??"
And smirking she replied, "agar aap bhul gayi hai toh mein apko yaad dila dun Thakumaa, ye mere Sakha babu hai..aur inse milne kliye mujhe apse puchne ki zarurat nehi hai.."
And getting more angry at her words Thakumaa said,"Bondita tu bachi nehi hai ab..Apna tamasha band kar aur ja apne kamre mein.." But today Bondita didn't stop, she had gained all her confidence with her Sakha babu beside her and she spoke with the same tone, "tamasha mein kar rahi hun Thakumaa?? Aur 8 saal se jo tamasha aap humare zindegi k sath kar rahe hain uska kya?? "
To shush her, Sumati maa too spoke, "Bondita Thakumaa hai tumhari ese kaise baat kar sakti hai tu unse.." But today she wasn't standing as Bondita Das but Barrister Bondita and she snapped back at Sumati too, "Maa agar itne saal se aap chup thi toh ab bhi chup rahe toh acha hai.."
This broke all the patience level of Thakumaa, as she raised her hands to slap Bondita but Anirudh held her hand and said glaring at her,"sochna bhi mat Thakumaa, mere hote hue Bondita ko chot toh kya ussee chot pahnchane ka bhi koi soch nehi sakta..baas bahut hogaya apka ye khel"
Thakumaa smirked at Anirudh as she realised her hands from his grip and said, "Anirudh Roy Choudhury, umar hogayi lekin tevar nehi gaye tumhare.. Are tumko toh sharam aani chahiye Barrister babu, mard ho isliye meri poti ka faida utha rahe ho..Shaadi toh tod di lekin ab bina naam k rishte se sare aam uski ijjat uchhal rahe ho"
Bondita was about to say something when Anirudh shouted in rage,"baas kijiye Thakumaa aur kitna niche girengi aap??" And showing their handhold to her he said,"ye meri Bondita hai Anirudh ki Bondita aur aap ka koi hak nehi hai iske baare mein kuch bhi bolne ka.. aur ek baat ye apki Bondita Das nehi rahegi ab, bahut jaldi Barrister Bondita Anirudh Roy Choudhury ban jayegi fikar mat kijiye ladki wale hain shaadi mein jarur bulaunga apko ab kliye chalta hun.. aur haan mein nehi chahta apni Bondita ko yahan chodne kliye aap logon k bich..isliye usse apne sath le ja rahi hun, uske parivar k paas jo aaj bhi uske intezar mein bethe hai.."
Bondita was stunned at every words of her Sakha babu, he talked about their marriage and that too like this in front of her Thakumaa, her heart was dancing in happiness and she was blushing at his words ye apki Bondita Das nehi rahegi ab bahut jaldi Barrister Bondita Anirudh Roy Choudhury ban jayegi were ringing in her ears.
And talking Bondita's hand in his he left from their with her following him as she was too nervous to utter anything. Sumati Maa though shocked with all those happening but was happy for her daughter and Tupur was smiling, she was beyond happy for her lovable sister.
And for Thakumaa her face itself said she has lost the biggest battle of her life as her eyes was glued to the retreating figure of Anirudh and Bondita moving out hand in hand and Anirudh's last words echoing in her ears,"bahut kuch kiya naa apne Anirudh aur Bondita ko juda karne kliye.. par aap bhul gayi thi, ye rishta dugga maa ne joda hai, fasla chahe kitna bhi aye, Anirudh aur Bondita ka naam ek sath tha aur humesha rahega.."
They sat on the car and drove, but Bondita was sitting silent looking outside, to be true she was nervous to look in his eyes after the confession. Anirudh tried every attempt but she didn't turned to him and frustrated he stopped the car at a side and thus confused Bondita looked at him, their eyes met and Anirudh saw tears in them.
He was scared and thought may be she didn't liked as he said she is going to marry him. After all its her decision, how can he say without asking her once and with guilt he stated glancing down,"Bondita I am sorry..maine woh sab jaan bhuj k nehi kaha.. Tum toh janti ho mere gussa..woh Thakumaa k samne nikal gayaa muh se.. Mujhe tumhe offend karne ka koi irada nehi tha..ye tumhare life ka decision hai,ispe mera koi hak nehi hai..tum jo bhi chahati ho, mujhse bejhijak share kar sakti ho.. Par please rona band kar do.."
Bondita looked at him bewildered and seeing up he saw her laughing as she said,"Sakha babu, kaas sisha hota mere paas toh apki shakal dikhati..apko kisne kaha k mein ro rahi hun aur woh bhi apki baat se.." and stopping her laughter she said, "mein toh baas ye soch rahi thi k Thakumaa naa hoti toh humari zindagi kuch aur hoti..shayed itna dard nehi hota aur isliye baas ansu agaye.."
Anirudh got confidence after she said that and he thought, so she didn't say no thus thinking twice he held her hand. She gasped at it but he didn't left instead tightening his hold, locked his eyes with hers as he spoke with a hope and sincerity in his voice,"mujhse shaadi karogi Bondita?? "
If his handhold made her gasp, this was one more shocker, her mind stopped working and her heartbeat quickened. And unable to answer him anything she cast her eyes down with her cheeks turning red.
He was smiling seeing her reactions and still holding her hand he said, "mein jawab ka intezaar kar raha hun Bondita..ya phir tum nehi chahati..."
But before he could complete she looked up and confessed still blushing, "mein taiyar hun Sakha babu.." with a pause and a smile lingering in her lips she continued, "apse shaadi karne kliye..phir se" and a lone tear escaped her eyes, a happy tear it was.
Anirudh left her hand as he cupped her cheeks smiling at her and Bondita too smiled back at him blushing.
But the atmosphere changed for them as they saw their proximity, his face was inches gap from her and she shivered a little as her heart skipped beats.
Though out of love Anirudh held her cheeks but, desires made their way as his gaze fell on the pink lips of hers and unknowingly he leaned forward, prepared to stop with a slight hesitation from hers but she didn't stopped him rather looked down blushing to deep shades of red and taking it as a yes, he locked his lips with hers.
It was a sight to behold, as under the moonlit sky and starry night, the two lovers savoured the taste of each other's lips.
It wasn't just a desire, but their love and longing of years.
Not everyone possess the courage to wait with hope and love so deep, like them. But the love they had for each other made their relationship special. They didn't lived for themselves but for each other.
