There is money in Idol even after the season gets over. The winner/top 3 are business propositions. Plus for all the years that Idol has been around, if they miss one thing - it is a find. Someone who jumps into recognition soon after the season ends. That is great long term image value. If the makers think that there is such a talent this year they will make that talent win - by hook or crook. Otherwise, they will fall back on "earn while the going is good" tactics.

We are all puppets in this game. The way the last elimination is being handled points at a strategy - not a clean straight fight.

Very true. This season was never a fair competition.

On your underlined point do you think there is someone who can jump into recognition post show which they didn't achieve in 70 episodes?

Honestly no. One excuse is that the industry is in slowdown. Fresh talent is usually attached to fresh faces. Fresh faces will wait for things to pick up.

Plus, I have had hopes shattered in the past. So my predictions are not good.

I think there will be demand at local industry level for Aru and Nihal because they have already stepped in and have a protected industry to find space in. Sayli's market is full of great talent already and she did not have a impactful head start at the kid level. SMP is not a regional fit - she is national level. PD has no language-walled industry to fall back on, neither does Danish. They will have the toughest time.

The thing is to sustain yourself while waiting for a break. Getting one low key song in a big banner film will not cut it for you. You need a headline song - and those can come only if someone feels that only you can pull it off with distinction.

But, what do I know. I know that Sony would love to have one. They have the ability to judge. All the Sunny / Salman attempts are a move in that direction. They will keep at it till they get lucky.

Full disclosure: I have family in Bollywood industry. I have some gathered knowledge about how singers are selected by top banners.

Your analysis and predictions always involve lot of facts and info. Not a random prediction like some of us do. Which is why they are very interesting.

Let's see whom Sony thinks their best bet between Pawandeep and Arunitha.

Wow, good to hear that. Would love to get more insider information on the nuances of how Bollywood handles new talent.

Hoping to hear more from you 😊

Thank you. My training and career choice makes me what I am 😊

Look, the fact is that for every big budget film at least 3 times the songs finally included are recorded by top singers. I know of a movie that never used 3 Shreya songs and 2 Sunidhi numbers. In fact Shreya got a background song and Sunidhi a promo song at the end.

Netflix, Prime Video are the real investors in the market today. Sony is also becoming a player. Most don't put songs to lips. It runs in the background. It has zero artist impact. Groovy, off beat songs are cast on people - so they come into the limelight more often.

Sony put its money on SMP initially for these reasons, but it did not work out the way they wanted. So they went back to the drawing board and have some new strategy in place. I don't know what it is. There are management wiz kids in their pay. They are working it out with information. We have no real information - just speculation. So can't say for sure.

With SMP their change has been quite drastic. Suddenly they started sidelining her too much. Not sure how that kid handled this business game. But I feel pity for her. Even now I don't understand their strategy for SMP. They sideline her but never look like they would go for her elimination. Unlike Anjali which I could see her elimination coming. With SMP I don't know if my biases stopping me to see the facts or I feel she is being promoted and not promoted at the same time. Very funny.

Perfectly summed

Sayli, Nihal and Arunita seemed to be primed for playback singing, but as you said, songs not being cast on the actor/actress is changing the way playback is being done. I believe, these three would have reached great heights in 90s and 2000s.

However, I just hope they are able to adapt to the fast changing needs of industry, as I find all three of them extremely dedicated to their craft.

About SMP, I don't know about early days, but have been watching from March, have seen her not having much bandwidth with the Idol makers, and in Powerplay round, she has been routinely sidelined!

This might have something to do with the Idol audiences, who are mostly 45+ (my age group 😊) and they prefer that old rendition types of soulful songs. And immediate target of Sony would have been to hold on to the core audience

But as you mentioned, very rightly Hindi movie world music is a different ball game all together, which explains so much of variety nowadays, and a quite different age group target.

SMP will have to aim high and road is most difficult for her, for what she is seeming to aim, but she lloks only talent, who can break the glass ceiling

As for Pawan and Ashish, they have already indicated their preference for music composition and hopefully they will achieved their cherished goals

As for Danish, Sawai and Anjali, they are still in that niche segment, and really can't comment how they will do in the future. Maybe Danish as an actor, Sawai and Anjali in concerts

Sireesha, it seems is already getting a lookin as a playback singer in South (Telugu and Tamil)

SMP is an investment for Sony. They won't let her go. Sony is already putting money into the series with Octopus. Raj Surani does not decide alone on who gets to cut the songs. PD/Aru cashes in on popularity + talent. SMP mainly on talent.

Agree with you.

The thing is that SMP and Arunita are very young. They can afford to wait for a break by being in the sidelines. The issue with both now are that they are still mother-protected and the music world is full of Jonita and Nikita Gandhi's! Smart, capable, connected, and fairly young. You need that today with your talent.
Unless you are a demure Shreya Ghoshal that is - but like my wife says, no one she has heard in the last 20 years can hold a candle to that 16 year old reality show marvel. And my wife was a fully accredited singer in her own right.

Transformations are necessary for both these 2 talents. Otherwise we will come back in Idol 14 (maybe) and look for another could be star.
