Thank you. My training and career choice makes me what I am 😊
Look, the fact is that for every big budget film at least 3 times the songs finally included are recorded by top singers. I know of a movie that never used 3 Shreya songs and 2 Sunidhi numbers. In fact Shreya got a background song and Sunidhi a promo song at the end.
Netflix, Prime Video are the real investors in the market today. Sony is also becoming a player. Most don't put songs to lips. It runs in the background. It has zero artist impact. Groovy, off beat songs are cast on people - so they come into the limelight more often.
Sony put its money on SMP initially for these reasons, but it did not work out the way they wanted. So they went back to the drawing board and have some new strategy in place. I don't know what it is. There are management wiz kids in their pay. They are working it out with information. We have no real information - just speculation. So can't say for sure.
Perfectly summed
Sayli, Nihal and Arunita seemed to be primed for playback singing, but as you said, songs not being cast on the actor/actress is changing the way playback is being done. I believe, these three would have reached great heights in 90s and 2000s.
However, I just hope they are able to adapt to the fast changing needs of industry, as I find all three of them extremely dedicated to their craft.
About SMP, I don't know about early days, but have been watching from March, have seen her not having much bandwidth with the Idol makers, and in Powerplay round, she has been routinely sidelined!
This might have something to do with the Idol audiences, who are mostly 45+ (my age group 😊) and they prefer that old rendition types of soulful songs. And immediate target of Sony would have been to hold on to the core audience
But as you mentioned, very rightly Hindi movie world music is a different ball game all together, which explains so much of variety nowadays, and a quite different age group target.
SMP will have to aim high and road is most difficult for her, for what she is seeming to aim, but she lloks only talent, who can break the glass ceiling
As for Pawan and Ashish, they have already indicated their preference for music composition and hopefully they will achieved their cherished goals
As for Danish, Sawai and Anjali, they are still in that niche segment, and really can't comment how they will do in the future. Maybe Danish as an actor, Sawai and Anjali in concerts
Sireesha, it seems is already getting a lookin as a playback singer in South (Telugu and Tamil)
