I totally respect his principles. I am not a fan but I have a lot of respect for him as an actor. He is right - he is first and foremost an actor, who wants to stay true to his work. He is keeping himself firmly on the ground, rather than seeing his image from other people's perspectives and trying to live the life of that image. Fans, if truly fans, should understand his personality and if they do not respect him, should stop being his fans then. That is up to them. Asking another person to make life choices according to what you want is not fair.

SRK,Vidya and are huge superstars they all started from TV and they still have huge respect for the medium they first work with but this man has no respect,all his interviews are so full of himself & arrogance

If people still knows him its due to his work in TV medium the show that made him a sensational superstar overnight as Sujal Garewal

his arrogance is the reason for him being messed up

he is indeed a difficult person to work with

@bold - Now that is so true!! The least Rajeev could have done is love and cherish the character in his memories which gave him everything.

I think the reason Rajeev tries to disregard the success of this is because, he mentions in the interview that he wants to earn adulation and appreciation himself and from the scratch. He probably envisioned success of this sort to be an aftermath of an arduous struggle path in BW or TV.

But since he got it SO quickly with just one role and so easily, he wasn't able to accept that. He wanted his journey to be more adventurous, more challenging. He wanted to have a story to tell from his own so-called arduous path of self discovery..from what it looks like in his answers to the interviewer, that he found it weird to have that kinda success so soon in life. Especially because Sujal was ALWAYS linked with Balaji and Ekta - he knew that people will look at him, not as a self-made man..but as a person, whom Ekta had made an overnight sensation with just one show. I don't think Ekta herself acknowledges that she's made a character better than Sujal to this day. Sujal (played by Rajeev) was the only character she got attached to herself, acc to an interview she gave.

But one thing I'll give to Rajeev is - he handled the success a little bit more gracious between 2003-07, won numerous awards and MTV style icon awards and stuff. That whole phase for him was much better handled by him, than someone like Barun Sobti for example - who planked out within a year of IPK and could not keep that momentum ever for a year! I liked Barun too, but not like I liked Rajeev, because Barun seemed like just a one show wonder and then he fizzled out, started looking unkempt, lazy and came back with a flop in BW and in TV with IPK3 he did.

Atleast Rajeev kept the momentum with another huge hit in LRL as Capt.Rajveer and Aamir was a decent film. He kept doing various stuff like hosting shows etc. All the other choices of his were quite poor, like no PR/Manager/Advisor etc

I understand where you're coming from, but I don't think anyone's asking him to make life choices to please people, but for him to do better in the industry / business he is in. It's showbiz afterall, a little bit of humility and getting good advice from people, working on some projects which may not make sense to you, but work wonders to build you as a brand is important.

Take it this way - he spoke in the interview of wanting to reject or say no, to the role that made him an overnight success aka Sujal Garewal. That was apparently the first role offered to him as a Male Lead, even before he did his first show Kya Haadsa. Apparently, Rajeev wanted to say 'no' to his first role, to just get the thrill of rejecting a big PH like Balaji and feel worthy in his own eyes of having had the guts to say no, even if there was no apparent reason for the rejection and it did not make sense. And when he took it up, look at the magic it did for him. Every TV actor respects his name and look up to him, cause they know it made him an icon.

Have a look at this below between 1.15 to 2.00. Actors like Harshad Chopra and Ronit cannot forget the stardom Rajeev got through Sujal's role and apparently Rajeev wanted to reject it for no fine reason, except to satisfy his ego

The problem being discussed here is not just the choices he made in life after a certain point, but it's the attitude and the thought process that is being criticized. And his attitude definitely does not seem grounded to me or to the majority of the folks that have commented on this thread. He seems arrogant beyond reason.
