Okay, with the set of episodes we are getting this week and the ones we will be tortured with this week, I would like to write something about Malini. I usually am very careful about writing things about her, as my first full fledged review thread was attacked by trollers as I had focused on her in my entire review. It bothered me enough to stay away from sharing a lot of what I really think about that character, but today something is just pushing me to share.

The show has always whitewashed a lot of Malini's actions under the umbrella that she lost out on her 7 years ka rishta. People who felt that Imlie and Adi cheated her by falling in love, have conveniently forgotton what she has done, under the guise that it was expected as she felt wronged. Everything she did, including calling Imlie names, fighting with Adi, doubting his intentions, leaving her sasural in the drop of a hat, allowing her mother to insult everyone who lived in her marital home, giving her father a free pass, despite knowing he wronged Meethi and promising her justice, telling a lie to Adi to get the truth from him and then using that lie as a shield to continue to be in his life as a "friend", trying to kill herself over a suspicion, rather than confront the people about the truth, tell Adi's mother that Adi loved her once, but fell out of love with her (due to Imlie in subtext), despite Adi telling her multiple times that he never loved her, telling the truth to her mother, knowing what she is capable of, telling the truth to the T's, knowing the effect it will have in the current scenario, has been whitewashed by the fact that she did not send Adi to jail on knowing the truth.

Malini has always been that privileged brat who can never accept that someone of a lower strata than her has got something that she felt she had sole ownership of. She never loved Adi, just wanted to be in a relationship where she called the shots and the other person accepted it because she was saccharine sweet and had a gentle disposition. She assumed that because Adi loved his job so much, so her not complaining will show how mature she is. She assumed that if anything happens to Adi, she will show her support by calling people and showing her power, rather than actually getting down and dirty to solve the issue. Malini is like those girls who look pretty, but do not have substance, but them being nice & pretty like a doll, has people around wanting to be associated with them. Malini preens everytime she is praised, even for those things she had no direct contribution for. She is willing to take credit for things if it suits her purpose, but at the same time is willing to berate someone even if they are not at fault. While I agree that she is human and has flaws, but her flaws being whitewashed under the garb of her being a "goddess" does not allow me to connect with her in any way.

Malini lovers often bash us that we are being unnecessarily harsh on her. She is so fragile, that just the thought of losing someone made her want to take her life. This is a thought I cannot wrap my head around. Call me old fashioned, but I cannot seem to understand the need to justify her act. How is her being fragile Adi or Imlie's fault. How is her inability to face the facts and get out of her delusions Adilie or our problem. If she is supposed to be shown in an organic show that prides itself to show realistic situations, then why is her character so hard to root for. Even now, despite everything the T's have done, I know there will be a point where the makers will allow me to feel some kind of connect with them (not the way we used to, that bridge has been broken), but with Malini's character, I can assure you that will never happen. I understand the current situation where the world is slowly understanding the significance of mental health, and how we should not blame anyone who tries to take such a step. I also to a large extent agree that mental health is often overlooked and can lead to disastrous circumstances if not identified at the right time. But what I do not get is why someone else is being blamed for a choice that an individual took. If she was so unstable, either she should have spoken to someone, faced her fears or atleast accused Adi of putting her in a situation that is consuming her. If he was supposed to be her best friend, did she not owe him that much.

I understand that depression is something that when it takes over you cannot think, that sometimes when such an urge comes over, you cannot stop yourself or think logically. But what I do not understand is that how anyone can take their life as something they can play with and utilize it as a weapon to emotionally manipulate another person, which is what Malini did. She used her advantage to guilt Adi into forever being under her ehsaan, also then by accepting the truth that he never loved her.

Such a person cannot and should not be hailed. Such a person cannot be rooted for, no matter how long a redemption journey they show. Such a person cannot be someone's role model - at least not someone I would suggest as a role model. For me, even if Imlie was not in the picture, Malini could not have been someone I could identify with, but since Imlie is very much there in the picture, it just highlights the stark differences even more.

Agreed with all of it. Mental health is a sensitive topic. Somebody who feels life so worthless that they go on to giving it up - it's sad. Situations and circumstances aren't always in our favour. Sometimes we can't help but lose ourselves in the darkness of situations we face and then, people go on to take such a huge step. Understandable not everyone can remain strong and sometimes are overpowered by circumstances. We aren't insensitive people. Malini fans don't understand that we are calling out on her action because it wasn't a deed done because she was pushed to the edge and being fragile, she couldn't handle any of it. It was straightforward manipulation. Wearing her bridal costume, uttering such dialogues - it was plain scary! She looked possessed!

If MC had been so emotionally distraught etc, she wouldn't have woken up and woven another story about KC infront of Adi. That lie served no purpose whatsoever.

Logically after that attempt, her parents should have taken her to a psychiatrist and got a counseling done.

Malini fans aren't even comprehending the characters, situations and main story of the show. They just go on to bash Aditya and Imlie.

According to them we are sadists who still support cheaters like Adilie who drove their bechaari idol to the brink of taking her life. They aren't even comprehending the arc and journey of the very idol they are desperately trying to defend.

U should see in the comments section of videos of Imlie. Those people went on to say Anu hitting Imlie's head with a tube light was right because she deserved it for ruining Malini's house. Even recently some people went on to say throwing water on Imlie, violence or abuse on her is alright.

This is the thinking of people. It's so depressing to read those comments.

We aren't saying Adilie have no flaws of their own. All are grey characters here. But M fans completely forget that.

Okay I deviated a lot from the point. In short, I agree with all your points.

Brilliant post! You laid it all out.

Just wanted to add that Malini is averse to reality. When AC tells her the truth about Dev’s affair and she suspects he may have a child, Malini cover3ed her ears and had a meltdown that brought the senior Ts rushing to know what happened. She’s been pampered and wrapped in delusions all her life in the name of protecting her that she believes reality is the delusion and her delusion is reality.

What she craves is adoration and attention from everyone. Mentally immature like a young child. She always smiles when T ladies praise her outer beauty, education and status. She basks in their praise, so shallow is her personality.

Another instance that proves that Malini is mentally messed up is when she goes nuts because Imli is wearing maang me sindoor. Why was that threatening to her? Again, if she suspected Adi had feelings for Imli the way he was looking out for her and defending her why not confront him with the truth? She’s scared to hear the truth.

She believes she’s entitled to whatever she decides is hers. Adi told her he and his first wife Imli love each other. yet emboldened by Sr Ts she decides to claim herself as Adi’s wife. She feels entitled that Adi should call her when he’s away(talk about insecurity), she spent 7 years with Adi so he cannot fall in love with someone else bec she decided he was hers for life. When Adi sat in the kitchen to eat with household help she made it about her. “I’ll eat with those who want to eat with me”. Playing childish games of staying back with Mom when she doesn’t get her way, only to show up hours later because he didn’t indulge her, letting her mother storm into her In-laws home and bellow her displeasure that her daughter wasn’t getting what she was entitled to in her mind.

As long as Adi was dancing to her tunes she felt she found someone easy to manipulate. Imli came into the picture and gave Adi a swift kick that woke him up to the shallow life he was leading. Imli challenged him to find his inner strength and courage to live life on his terms.

Even before they tied the knot Malini let her mother insult and berate Adi for his lack of status to match theirs. She always gave a token protest with no consequences Mom, and never fought for Adi.

KC was the only man who didn’t play her games and called her out for her delusions. Malini should face her emotional baggage before getting into a marital relationship or it’s bound to be a freaking nightmare.

The younger sis feels guilt and when she comes to know that her husband saved her sis, then accepts fully n both fall in love in Kashmir... those were classic romantic scenes...

Aisa kuch nahi milega... yahan par Adilie ka...

Like the climax n the story - Imlie will fight with the govt, army or police in this case and find her BBSB herself. Ofc they have to call eo shehri langoor n jhalli....

I am predicting we may get another 11 kisses like we got..previously.. can dream for one... 🤣

Its a good thing we have such a stark difference shown by the makers. It reinforces the idea that money, fortune, class etc..has got nothing to do with ones character.

As you said, nobody is flawless but what makes you better is the choices you make, the things you say and practice, and more than anything TRYING to grow to be a better person than you were yesterday. Malini has not grown a single bit as a person and she is reluctant to try for it as well. She just keeps pretending!

Exactly. Malini was a difficult character from the start, but atleast I felt bad for her. In fact when Adi was ignoring her, it made me really upset that she was suffering for no fault of hers. Even during the sindoor kand fights, her hurling accusations at Imlie though painful to watch, I could still understand, as she was really in pain due to Adi ignoring her.

But what bugged me was her choosing to bury her head in the sand, to the extent of using emotional blackmail to try and manipulate Adi to tell her the truth. She never once confronted him or Imlie or even try to find out the truth on her own. She just took a drastic step without once thinking of the consequences and then used it to her advantage to guilt Adi even more. The constant efforts to push her misdeed under the rug and keep hailing her as a mature, sensible and mahaan woman feels like an insult to these words. She was never that from the beginning and when I compare her character to Adi's or Imlie's, it pains me to see them having to redeem themselves for the mistakes they have made, while she gets a free pass.

That never happen in real life. You have to pay for every mistake you make, be it deliberately or inadvertently. Adilie are still being punished for hiding the truth, despite them having genuine reasons for doing so. Malini is going scot free, just because she looks pretty and comes from a "high class" family. Everyone just likes the package, even if the actual contents have decayed to the point that it is stinking miles away.
