Badhaai Ho Badhaai (Not Ayushmann Khurana's Badhaai Ho) was a movie released in 2002 starring Anil Kapoor and Shilpa Shetty.

The movie was a remake of Tamil film Poove Unnekaga starring Vijay which released in 1996.

Badhaai Ho Badhaai was a story about Raja (Anil Kapoor) who befriends a girl named Florence and falls in love with her. But Florence loves a guy named Ranjit. Raja is heartbroken but Florence has her own problems as her family would never accept her relationship with Ranjit, as she belongs to a Christian family while Ranjit belongs to a Hindu family.

On top of that both families already hate each other, because already a boy and girl from respective families went against them by running away because of love. Raja decides to help Florence and unite the two families. He arrives at their house claiming to be the son of that runaway couple.

Rejected by both the families, he keeps on trying and wins over some of the members of both the families. After some time, a girl named Tina (Shilpa Shetty) claiming to be Raja's wife arrives at the scene. She turns out to be the real grandchild of both the families.

After knowing Raja's true intentions she too decides to help him, and in the process falls in love with him. Raja and Tina succeed in uniting the families and both agree to the marriage of Florence and Ranjit.

Both families knowing what Raja has done for them without even being related to them, think of "adopting" him and getting him married with Tina. But Raja was still in love with Florence, so he couldn't marry Tina.

In the end, he just leaves after uniting both the families. He gets nothing after giving all the sacrifices, but that was core theme of the whole film. That true love is all about sacrifice. Even if it was a one-sided love, according to Raja he was never going to be over Florence, and would never be happy with someone else.

Raja is overall a tragic character. His love never gets fulfilled and Florence never even gets to know about his love. He gets a chance to have a family and another shot at love. But he rejects it, because marrying Tina would've meant that sacrifice he gave for Florence was nothing. He could've stayed instead of leaving, as he atleast would've got a family of his own. But staying would've meant that he would've to live with Florence as her brother-in-law.

The ending makes sense but it also sells toxic and unrealistic ideas about love. So do you agree with Raja's decision?

You can tell it’s a South(Tamil/Telugu) remake when U read such stories

Most of the toxic stories have been (like marrying the guy who raped her for money on her wedding day) from there but BW also got some really good stories from the South.

😆i thought its Ayushmann, Neena Gupta movie.

Not heard of this movie but read the plot you posted and its twisted and unrealistic. Life is moving forward and being happy. Men are known to grow over pretty fast😆

So you're saying you would've guessed it's a South remake even without me telling it before writing the plot?😆

Story is not toxic but the message might be.

Only the fat guy angle was copied from Nutty Professor which wasn't there in the original Tamil film.

Too bad Anil Kapoor didn't make a video about him gaining and losing weight like Aamir did for Dangal.

Movie might've made more at box office than it did and could've gotten him some awards as well.😆

🤣🤣that's so ridiculously funny! Such pathetic attempt to make Anil Kapoor look fat. Cheap body suit which is like a balloon.

His face is like a stiff plastic/ rubber mould and they aren't panning the camera on it! 😆

How did you manage to watch it!😆 Was Anil fat throughout the movie?

It would've been nice for Anil's character to have a happy ending with Shilpa. But is it that easy to fall out of love with someone and in love with someone else. I think love shouldnt look so fickle. Audiences will start to get disenchanted
