Hello everyone🤗 writing to you all on a busy Thursday morning for me here.
I went through the last few pages of the EDT. So the talk is all about TRPs.
First of all it's sad that 50,000 people get to decide what the rest of the country of 1.3 billion people get to watch. This system is completely flawed. Looks like they have been using this system in the early 2000s.
As many of you know that I grew up in 90s India, very much different than today. There were very few channels. Everyone single one of hem had quality programs with different themes. They were all weekly shows and nobody bothered about the rating system. We used to have shows running for 2 years but still there were only 100-120 episodes but the quality of the episodes, story line, tracks were superlative. Even when we knew the show is going to end, it was not abrupt, audience would be informed through Newspapers, magazines and sometimes they would start putting a scroll underneath when episodes aired to let us know when the show will end.
DD had the best shows, thought it's Government controlled, got to see varying genres which in itself was very progressive for those days. With the advent of cable TV, things started to go downhill. Then again Zee and Sony managed to put out quality shows in line with DD. They didn't have to worry about the ratings back then. We only had 2 daily shows on a trial basis back then- Junoon and Swabhimaan😃
StarPlus was the worst of them all, they could never get the footing they needed and their shows tanked left, right and center. They could not pull the audience at all. With the entry of Ekta Kapoor in early 2000, things started go down the drain and it's sad that its just become rotten. She scrapped the weekly 1 episode format to daily format. The daily format still exists in the US but its all in the afternoon. US still has weekly format and that's why we can all still cherish many seasons of our favorite shows.
I still lived in India the early 2000s, an ardent TV watcher of almost all Hind shows in the 90s, literally grew up with them as we had no other source of entertainment, she made me quit watching ITV shows hindi shows and I completely moved on to my regional shows. After couple of years, I moved out of the country and completely lost track of ITV and regional TV until 2011.
I expected SP's behavior to change once the Star group was bought over by Disney from News Corp & Fox Media Network (Rupert Murdoch's company). Disney in the US has a great reputation, they own ABC, ESPN and few other channels. All I can say that the management that runs SP is horrid, they don't want to go with changing times, want to keep feeding the same toxic shit that Ekta started almost 20 years ago. I have no problem saying they are all d*** heads😆
IMO, PS is nowhere as toxic as I am reading about other shows in this forum and elsewhere. That said, I have no regrets watching the show as soon as it's uploaded in Hotstar as I pay for the subscription and I am not doing anything illegal and I don't contribute to TRP's as well.
Also let's not fret over how long the show will last. Let's enjoy each episode as it comes. Some days it might be good and some days it might be bad. Let's take it all in a stride and keep supporting the show as much as we can.
I do feel bad for the cast, crew and the creative team for all the hard work they are putting in. They need our support all the time😃
P.S: Can't believe I wrote such a long post on ratings and toxicity of SP😆
