Thankfully, the bottle just broke into a couple of large pieces. No small shards... that would have been even more dangerous. Already the boiling medium inside exploded out as well and we were lucky that no one was standing right in front of the microwave. I was sitting a bit further.. and few droplets of the medium did reach over to me... but my full sleeved shirt saved me.

That's a good article... we already follow most of these things but it's useful to read them again. Melting Agar is one of the most common uses of microwaves in labs like ours.

Once earlier, a bottle had broken (not by me 😆) but that was after removing from the microwave and setting it on the counter. Might have been due to the sudden temperature difference bcz the counter was cold (winter-time) and the bottle had boiling medium. That's another thing to be careful about.

It's not dangerous per se... but yes, working in a lab requires one to be careful with everything one does... even the seemingly innocuous things like heating things in a microwave 😆.

I almost had second thoughts today... on having taken up this field 😆. Teaching online... or writing blogs and stories while sitting at home seem like much safer options 😆. I wonder what made me miss lab work when I was having a much more peaceful existence earlier 🤔 🤣

Glad to know you had a good holiday. We have been waiting to go on one and planned something in September but, it looks like our plans will be dashed yet again with the ongoing lockdown.
