I tried doing justice with my writing. I haven’t written before, my third time and the feedback that I’m getting is overwhelming. Thank you all so much. It was a year into their marriage. Jasmine was married to Gippy and she shifted to Canada. Fateh has moved on although he was heartbroken at the fact that Jasmine was now married and she wasn’t his wife. His wife—Tejo. His Tejo. The name alone would leave a bright smile plastered on his face.
A ray of sunshine, a ball of hope. That’s what she was in his life.
There she was standing next to Dadi in a red coloured saree, giggling away. Today was their first marriage anniversary. And to say he was nervous was understated. He wanted to make it special for her but he didn’t know how she felt. Would she reject or accept him— that was his biggest problem at hand. The second was how to muster the courage to get her to the terrace.
“Taking the risk with her is worth it,” he thought. He went to the terrace and shot a text to Dadi informing her that the plan is set to be in action.
“Alright Tejo, I’m heading to bed now. I’m tired,” Dadi said. Tejo hummed in response and off went Dadi.
Hasn’t been a minute since everyone went off to bed when she heard a scream. Worried, she dashed outside. Again the scream came, this time from the terrace. Being a detective, she headed up the stairs and what she found there nearly rendered her unconscious.
Soft music started to play as she set foot onto the terrace. Looking around she found him standing in front of the arch that had portraits of them together and individually. A lone tear escaped her eye.
“You came into my life uprooting everything in its place. You challenged my every being and made me into a better man. A man worthy of love. A man worthy to live. You have given me hope for a brighter tomorrow. You have brighten up my dull, boring life with your presence. Words fall short to describe your significance in my life. I’ve been dumb before, but hey, you’re a professor you’ve taught me many things.” He said holding her hands gently and looking into her eyes.
He continued,’without you, I don’t know the meaning of life. You have completed me truly. I may not be the man of your dreams but I’m willing to be him. For you, for us. What I’m about to say, you might not react the way I want you to but the decision is all yours. Only yours to take. Tejo, I- I…’
“What is it, Fateh?” she said even though she was fully aware of his intentions.
“I- I…I need some water,” he said nervously and she giggled. Leaving her hands, he went towards the small table that was there.
He came back towards but the words were at the tip of his tongue and they just won’t come out. What happened next skyrocketed his senses and he, this time was the one who was surprised.
“I love you, Fateh,” she said shyly whilst being bold at the same time. His eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. He hugged her so tight as though she was an illusion and if he only loosen his hold, she would disappear.
“And I love you too, Tejo,” he replied as he breathe into her neck.
