Rekkha Modi slams ITA awards
By: Tushar Joshi
November 10, 2005

Rekkha Modi
The writer of Kasautii Zindagi Kay and Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin, Rekkha Modi has expressed shock at the winners announced at the recently held television awards.

"There is definitely something wrong this year, especially in the choice of actors that have been awarded," says Modi.

Expressing her displeasure at the choice of the jury this year, she says, "Most of the big categories were major shockers. How can someone like Hiten Tejwani win the best actor in the popular category, when it actually should have gone to Ronit Roy as Mihir? Also, if you are considering him as a lead actor, then Gauri should also be in the same category and not in the supporting. This is totally ridiculous."

Gaping holes

Modi says there were huge holes in the nomination lists as well. "How can someone like Amrita Singh be totally ignored from the best negative role category? For the first time, there's a show that has the protagonist in the role of a villain.

If at all any one deserved this award, it was Rakshanda Khan as Mallika in Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin – she's terrific in that role. Also, a character like Mohini that is hugely popular in every household, was totally ignored. Tassnim should have at least been nominated for it."

Good actors sidelined

The biggest surprise, according to Modi, is in the best supporting actress category.

"How can Shilpa Saklani win an award for a show she's hardly been a part of? In recent episodes after she joined Kkusum, her track as Ganga has hardly been there. Both Rakshanda (as Tanya) and Gauri (as Nandini) are much better performers in this category.

Also, in the male category for the same, Swayam (Vikas Sethi) is definitely a more popular character than Rishi (Shabbir Ahluwalia). Actors like Shweta Tiwari and Saakshi Tanwar, who are natural actors, were not given their dues."

Rekkha adds that many other people called her and expressed their displeasure as well. "I have the courage to stand up for what's right; there are others who think the same, but will not come ahead and speak."

Kamlesh Kunti Singh lashes out against Sudha Chandran

Sudha Chandran
Another writer who has come forth to express his displeasure over the awards ceremony is Kamlesh Kunti Singh, who has written Prratima in the past and is working on Raja Mukerji's new film.

Singh is furious with Sudha Chandran, who went on stage to collect her award for Best Actress in a negative role for Prratima, but completely forgot to thank her unit.

"How can you win an award for a Raja Mukerji show and go on stage and thank Ekta Kapoor and Balaji? It was really saddening to see an actress like her totally ignoring the people responsible for giving her the trophy."

Kamlesh also says that the awards this year have set bad standards for upcoming artistes and technicians. "Awards are supposed to set standards for newcomers. But I doubt people will look up to this years winners and want to be in their shoes."

ya there is something wrong. gauri deserves more than shilpa even acting ability wise. tulsi is not bad actress but there r others who r eually good n should b given their dues. the way prerna makes u cry with her tulsi never. hiten n ronit both r very good so tough choice. but the nomination n winners dont match which is rediculous. i never seen this kind of award function.

btw tulsi has announced she ll not accept any awards 4 tulsi then what happened? abhi bola abi folk just like srials of EK 😆

i don't think that rohnit is better than hiten.obviously karan role in kyunki is much better than mihir.so hiten winning it is not a surprise.and as far as gauri is considered nandini's character is obviously good but tulsi is certainly the main lead.but certainly gauri must have won the award for kyunki.shilpa i didn't seen her even in a single scene without all bahus for last 9,10 months.her winning the award is ridiculous.
