Okay...now there are a lot of hindi, etc. terms used while describing Kathak...so I'll try to narrate the happenings in English so it's easier to understand.
So the performance starts with footwork for one aavartan. So the most most most most basic footwork for kathak is known as tatkaar. Now as it's teentaal we finish one aavartan only once we are done working on 16 beats... so tatkaar goes like 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 (Right left right left left right left right) so we generally take one aavartan before starting any piece be it various tukra, torra, tihaai, etc. This one slow aavartan basically helps in preparing you to increase your speed for the upcoming piece and ensure things don't start on an abrupt note. So exacrly what she's doing.
Okay now the main highlight of this performance are the 2 tihaais. If you hear the beats you'll notice the same set of beats are being repeated thrice with a slight pause between each set. So let me tell you the first tihaai is extremely BASIC and one of the beginner ones and one of the easiest tihaai with a combination of both hand movements and footwork.
