I think he was 50-50 about the entire situation. He had a strong suspicion but forgot all about it when he hurt her.

Yes... I feel the same. I think the reason they might be doing this is to keep up the impression of lovey dovey emotions between them, if they give us insight into Ani's mind then it will be clear ke he doesn't feel love but rather it is his special bond with choti Bon.

Even in his flashbacks, he remembers those wonderful moments of happiness he shared with her.. nothing related to their marriage or some implication of love.

It is easier to imply love utilizing Bon's point of view because she is more affected by all the closeness due to her crush.
