Telugu is one of oldest language like Sanskrit, it is based on Sanskrit. it existed even before Urdu is born . Urdu is born after Telugu . That proverb they might took it from Telugu . Seems original is Telugu .

not only telugu all south languages are oldest and have been part of sanskrit (tamil,telugu ,malayalam and tullu)
