The much awaited IPL gets off today with a match where Shah Rukh Khan's Knight Riders take on Vijay Mallya's Royal Challengers. SRK has done all that he can to add the required glamour to the sport and has heraled an exodus of Bollywood stars onto the cricket stadium, rooting for their team. Beginning with a music album, team anthem etc, SRK has done it all. Now it's up to the players.
It's not just been SRK and Preity Zinta, who is also the proud owner of the Punjab XI along with Ness Wadia, but almost the whole of Bollywood who has minted money even before the first ball was bowled at the IPL. Filmstar have already been roped into endorse teams. If SRK is for Kolkata, then Hrithik Roshan has been roped by the Ambani's to root for Mumbai. He has also appeared in a music video for Mumbai Indians. If the badshah has jumped into the ring, can the king be far behind? Actor Akshay Kumar has expressed his support for the Delhi team. Music directors like Bappi Lahiri, Pritam and Vishal Shekhar too have had a field day, composing for the anthem of each of the teams. The IPL truly heralds the much awaited marriage between Bollywood and Indian Cricket. With both parties making their money, it remains to be seen if the public gets its money's worth.
