Interesting post! One thing I would like to add from my end. Post leap we see a toned down version of Maami simply because she is no longer in a position of power. If given that power (be it through money, respect, etc...), she will return to her former self. No denying that she loves Anita & Raavi, but that has never stopped her from trying to use and manipulate them. Her love will never be unconditional nor will she be able to put their happiness first. That was never her strong suit. Her love for money will rank a bit higher than her love for these girls. That is a huge part of her character.

Now I feel like her need to win the battle against Suman and one up the Pandya family is something that probably runs as deep as Shiva’s need to get that kangan back to its rightful owner. Personally, I want to know more about Prafulla’s initial days at Pandya House. How did the family treat her when she was a new bride? What has she endured during those years? Not that this justifies her behavior with the kids or changes her nature. But it would be interesting to see how this all started.

Anyway I feel like this became about Maami but wanted to put my thoughts out there. Will comment on Shiva-Raavi hopefully after work. I have been commenting on other aspects of the episode but not so much this because it’s not easy to put into words.

I am a little apprehensive about seeing that because I love Suman right now and don’t want to backtrack 🤣

Maami herself has insinuated that she has faced a lot of humiliation from Suman. Think about Suman’s character- she is a strong woman with opinions rooted in the old patriarchal setup.

Maami may not have started as so evil…she was probably always a bit selfish and greedy, but most people are… she was probably more like Rishitha starting out. Now, if you think of Maama, he seems more like Dev. He does not have strong thoughts or opinions of his own, and looks like he was entirely dependent on Suman-Darshan for emotional and financial needs. Just like Dhara is Bhabhi ma, and the boys keep harping on her qualities, I am pretty sure Maama was all “Didi Maa” and what not. I am pretty sure they had to run by every decision and financial request by Suman first. And Maama being weak might not have supported Maami in the initial days. The bitterness probably festered over years and exacerbated her baser qualities like the greed and selfishness. And Suman, would have definitely not left a single opportunity to rub Maami’s shortcomings in her face.

I find it really interesting that Dhara-Rishitha are probably a parallel to Suman-Maami. The new person in the family trying to find their footing, enamored by the power and love wielded by the matriarch who is not actually the mother.

I think the Kangan and Pandya Store are more symbols of power, rather than monetary gains. That’s why the Lord of the Rings analogy is apt. The items are not expensive in and of themselves, but they strike the emotional core of the people vying for it. For Shiva, it is his mother’s right and father’s dream. For Maami it is the symbol of the power that oppressed her once she was young… the Kannan probably gives her a sense of superiority. I think that is why she is not able to let go. Reminds me a bit of the Shakuni story
