Here's my ranking:

1. 2012 - Vidya, Kahaani

2. 2011 - Vidya, TDP (Extraordinary performances, these 2 are a cut above the rest, and cannot really be compared with the others)

3. 2000 - Karishma, Fiza (Don't like Karishma, but she was solid in this role)

4. 1998 - Kajol, KKHH (She turned a simplistic character into something iconic, one of the few performances of Kajol that I actually liked)

5. 2007 - Kareeena, JWM (Same as above, simplistic role but iconic performance)

6. 2009 - Vidya, Paa (She was good in it, though I preferred Kareena in Kurbaan)

7. 2006 - Kajol, Fanaa (This is the only role of Kajol I liked post 2000, but the other nominees were better)

8. 2008 - Priyanka, Fashion (not a fan of this performance but she was pretty decent in it)

9. 2004 - Rani, HT (Good performance, but not an award worthy one, especially in such a strong year)

10. 1999 - Ash, HDDCS (Decent performance, one of her better ones)

11. 2003 - PZ, KHNH (Strictly average performance, but got lucky as the role was well-written and the film was a good one)

12. 2005 - Rani, Black (Yeah I can see why it is considered a path-breaking role, still don't think of it as a good/convincing one though)

13. 2002 - Ash, Devdas (Pretty average work, looked lifeless and artificial in most scenes)

14. 2001 - Kajol, K3G (While technically a good performance in the ott-comedy genre, it's not an award worthy one)

15. 2010 - Kajol, MNIK (By far the worst winner -- she was mediocre throughout the whole film except for the scene where she finds out her son died, in that scene she was terrible and deserving of a Razzie award)

Haven't seen a bunch of these.

- I would not have given Kajol the FF for K3G. On the rewatch, to my surprise, she and SRK stood out as the weak links in the cast.

- Karisma earned that FF for Fiza. She was phenomenal.

2011 - Vidya, TDP - No one could have done what she did here. Nailed it.

2012 - Vidya, Kahaani - The role and script were awesome, but she was also great.

1999 - Ash, HDDCS - Role with amazing character arc; she lived it

2009 - Vidya, Paa - Relatively simpler role for Vidya, but she made it so natural

2000 - Karishma, Fiza - This is her forte, not those Shakti like OTT performances

2002 - Ash, Devdas - The drama was OTT, but she was magnificent as Paro, lovely character arc again

1998 - Kajol, KKHH - Sweet simple role but she owned it. Props to her

2007 - Kareeena, JWM - Kareena playing a middle-class version of Kareena; she played herself but the result was nice as it fit into the film well.

2008 - Priyanka, Fashion - This performance didn't age that well, looks
"acted" out when I watch it now. But I remember liking it when I first watched it.

2003 - PZ, KHNH - Preity playing her bubbly self. Ok acting but the script was great and elevated her performance.

2004 - Rani, HT - Same as above

2005 - Rani, Black - Never got the hype about this

2006 - Kajol, Fanaa - These three performances by Kajol are not award worthy at all, but she got them for obvious reasons. So yeah.

2001 - Kajol, K3G

2010 - Kajol, MNIK

Hardly anyone was deserving

Seems like a club where same 2/3 people choose 1 amongst themselves and do this self gratification 😆

2012 vidya shouldn't have won. Priyanka deserved it for barfi. Huge mistake.

The critics awards are more interesting. Tabu reigns with 4 during this period but there are 11 different winners and Rani in Black is the only duplicate with the main popular awards. Interestingly Kareena in 2007 and Vidya in 2011 won Popular & Critics for two different performances.
